Conquering The Booze (Open)

Having moved from the finger-food, she knew she had to have a refill of her drink. Being seen as too sober at an event like this was probably bound to draw unwanted attention. The sober ones were always the suspicious ones she could recall from her various bodyguard stints.
Ordering a new drink at the bar, she kept it simple. Just plain whiskey.

Speaking of those who look suspicious . . . A rather clean looking droid comes walking up to the bar and asks if it could get a bottle of malt liquor.

Raven gave the order a curious look. Could droids even eat or drink? Maybe he was bringing it to his master?
Realising she was staring, she picked up her drink that had been placed before her, leaving a small tip for the bartender.

The droid then took a look at how much Raven had in her glass, SCaT took various glasses out and filled each of them to that level and took them over to an empty table and just sat there looking around the room.

Dhel, fancied way the hell up with a long dress of deep blue and a necklace with a purple gem Raven would recognize, wanders over to ask for an Aldaraanian Sea Fizz, at least partly because it matches her dress. She nods to Raven before placing her order with the bartender and setting a tip on the bar.
"So far, I've learned that stormtroopers off duty, do get drunk...and are exactly as bland as you'd expect from the armor, while technicians are a lot more entertaining, even if you only barely understand what they're talking about." She looks quizzically at the droid with a collection of glasses...possibly a good lure for the drunk troopers she'd left a bit ago?

Looking at Dhel, Raven had to appriciate that the Bothan knew what she was doing when it came to looking good. It had been to her own advantage too tonight to look more like she fit in.
"I could've told you that about their armor, you know," she chuckled with a playful smirk. White pristine armor with no decorations made for bland warriors.
Glancing once more at the odd behaviour of the droid, Raven propped an elbow against the bar-counter to look at Dhel. "I know I said it leaving the ship, but you look pretty amazing. I hope Korvin complimented you on it appropriately too?" There was a hint of knowing in her smile.

The droid then scribbled something on a piece of paper and took out a little stand, placing the paper on there. The paper turns out to be a makeshift sign "free booze".

"A few times, not all of them verbal," she says as her drink arrives.
Looking thoughtful, she adds, "You know, I never really thought about armor as something you could read personality through. It's not like clothes where you can shift them readily with the fashions, right? More expensive, and having a lot more practical considerations."

"True, armor isn't as easily changed out as clothes." Were probably some who did, but then there was probably no personal importance to the armor. "But, for those who wear armor a lot, you can tell a great deal about them based on their armor. Is it well-maintained, is it dirty, does it show sign of battle - recent or old? Then there are the personal touches like color, decorations, paint-jobs, markings..."
She took a whiff of her whiskey before sipping it slowly. This was a good one. One to be enjoyed at a pace.
"When your armor is part of your identity, like it is for my people, you find ways to also put your personal touches into how you present your armor to others. Colors traditionally hold meanings, markings and designs can tell you of their clan and history, past deeds." She glanced around them, not seeing any white bucket-heads around right now. "So when you have a pristine white armor that is identical to everyone else, it says you're nothing special. Just another piece in a set."

Almost as if to make her point, a crowd of spacers come along, all wearing simple yet formal clothes, to grab a full shotglass from the droid. Small talk happening every, hand shakes being given, and if one were paying really close attention, slips of paper passed hands. The droid then walks over to the ladies with the empty tray in hand. "Anything I could help you ladies with?"

Dhel, routing around her player's sleep deprivation, realizes this is a perfect time to rectify the fact that she hasn't complimented Raven's getup yet. "I've noticed the designs on yours. So that's something you all do...not just like...symbols for your family or patrol? Legion?" She grimaces apologetically. "Sorry, never learned much about what groups of fighters call themselves. But the suit is really sharp! And..."she looks for the little military-ish Cascader. "New jewelry?"
She looks up as SCaT approaches. "Oh, doing ok." She picks up her drink as evidence that she's covered so far. She's pretty sure this is the same one she's talked to before...if only because she hasn't seen another B-1 around in ages. So she runs with that assumption. "You been working here? Or just for the thing tonight?"

"Most of us do it in some way to show family and clan, yes. Or a sense of belonging with a specific group," she said to clarify to Dhel, though not delving into the complexity of various splinter groups and factions among her people. "Just brothers and sisters. We're not an army."
Holding her glass up, she cracked a warm smile at the compliment. "Thank you. And thanks for some of the pointers you and Sholua had," Raven ran a hand over her slicked back hair. The Cascader made for a subtle and tasteful addition to the ensemble, working as a decorative pin on her vest. "And new jewelry I have you to thank for."
Likewise, Raven was starting to put two and two together that it had to be the same B1 she had averted being turned into scrap by those angry gamblers. B1's weren't exactly a common sight, even on an old separatist planet. "I'm good, thank you."

"Ah, just for the thing tonight. Turns out they want to show off 'a hero of the hospital for the poor people'. Can you believe there was some crazy group who fired missiles at a medical facility?"

"You're very welcome. I kind of like playing with makeup, but it mostly has to be on other people, because fur just looks strange with colored powder brushed on." She sips her drink, gold-painted claws a serendipitously rich contrast against the deep blue cocktail. "And stop that, you paid me back!" She taps the woman's chest with one finger in emphasis.
"Heard about that clinic mess from a few people. I don't know if racing through there was such a good idea. Seems like they're awfully riled up, and that probably won't end well for anyone."

Raven only chuckled at Dhel poking at her. It was a little bit like being mewed at by a kitten.
"People shot up a hospital?" She seemed more confused than surprised. "Why would anyone do that? Some kind of raid or something...?"

"I have no idea whatsoever, and I personally didn't get close enough to ask them. I decided the best course of action would be to stand on top of the hospital and call out wherever the rockets were going towards."

"Lady I was talking with said Gonks. And I mean...you do *not* want to go poking around their camps. But I don't remember them ganging up and attacking something like that...at least since I was old enough to pay any attention." She frowns. "But rockets? I guess I always thought they were kinda low-tech for that sort of thing."
She shrugs. "Guess you can't believe every rumor. But this is a great place to collect some. Like I have absolutely not idea who Shiv May is, but she is apparently breaking her parents' hearts..probably both of them, since I'm betting they're human, by running off with a mere ensign."

"Ah right. Gonks. Heard about those... Just never ventured down into the lower levels myself to see what it was all about." She shrugged. Why go poking yet another nest when she already had two on her hands?
"Well, everyone's alive, I guess. Probably. Wait, why is it bad that she's running off with an ensign? Is he a bad potential partner?"

"Probably has more to do with how much the ensign can actually provide for the family. They are the lowest of the Imperial officer ranks."

Dhel nods. "An ensign would be a pretty good match for someone like me...if I were into that. But I guess her family's probably way richer, or had plans that involved her marrying up to help them out or something. Figured I'd draw too much attention asking those kinds of questions."
Looking up at Raven, she asks, "How'd you meet your guy, anyway?"
