The Rookie (Soleene Q&A)

I did the Mandalorian thing and it was pretty fun! Soleene doesn't have too many secrets, I don't think...

I'm collecting questions and comments, which I'll happily answer in turn! It might take a while but I'll get to them!

Hey! I had a fun time interacting a few times with you, a shame we couldn't fight some bad guys together.

What inspired the character?

Sister! :D

Soleene was a great character for Raven to bounce off of. Really enjoyed her attitude and your take on things. And always happy to share game-time with you as a player as you always bring great characters to interact with. :)

What was your favorite moment in the game for Soleene?

Did you feel like she had a turning point in her story?

So how did it go hooking up with Tor after the fight against Ketsu? ;)

Ah I feel bad for not hitting you up more. Did I drop our thread on accident...?

The two of them, in what I did see, were kind of awkward! Varina seemed to be the more experienced one yet totally bad at conveying information. At least, that's the vibe I got from them.

Did she pan out mechnically like you'd planned on? I remember you discussing the build!

I really enjoyed the New Toys threat a lot. That were three or four times I was hoping you wouldn't have follow-up questions to something I said, because I wasn't sure what the answer should be. But sure enough you had more questions... lol. It was fun figuring out answers for you.

I hope you keep playing, because Claymore and Soleene can play off each other really well.

Soleen and J-Richo had a pretty good chat, I'd say!

As for the character inspiration, I guess it started with the thought that I should maybe play someone pink or red and also something who was fighty in some aspect. I got some further inspriation and encouragement from the player of Raven (giving credit where it's due) and Soleene was mashed together! The idea was someone who could potentially be strangely scary, hence the ranks in coercion. I admittedly had a script for Soleene in the beginning and kind of threw it out at the start of Day 0. I mean, she kind of ended up mostly close to what I wanted her anyway but less so on the 'rails' or fixed to her inspirations, just taking each of her situations individually and making organic decisions from there while finetuning her personality.

Sister! :D

Thank you, I'm glad that Soleene's personality and outlook were appreciated! Mostly a pragmatic girl who does things to get the job done! And playing with you is also a delight! :)

Favourite moment of the game? Hm, can I cheat to say moments? Admittedly, the mixer was something that started as peculiar and suddenly peculiar interesting. The first meeting the Salky Raiders was another, Soleene got to say a few things that ended up to be competent? Navigating through Mandalorian social circles as a noob. The FITE with Katsu was another one, the first time team was put into danger together, fighting and making things work. Those were pretty memorable and my favourite parts of the game!

The turning point of the story, yeah, was the post-Katsu FITE. I guess the whole execution thing kind caught me by surprise and I wondered where to take my stance on that. Dex being there kind of help put it into perspective, even if Soleene didn't end up agreeing with her ultimately. I guess taking part in the Mandalorian war crimes* was kind of that defining moment that Soleene was going to go all-in on this Mandalorian life and the new family of hers. She didn't like it but if she wanted to prove herself committed, she was going to follow through to the end. Long and short, a big put up or shut up moment for her.

Tor! Ooof, I guess Tor kind of caught her at a strange time after Mandalorian war crimes*. It was right after her moment and she would have likely spent the rest of the night and the next few days mulling over what she did. I guess it was a moment where they got to share camaraderie and bond after battle, although she was slightly on the wrong footing for reasons above, doing her best to normalize this as a thing. She probably did get hammered that night, I imagine!

*Am I using that term right?

Might have been interesting if Soleene and Varina had a scene after the mom incident! She could have commented on her punch!

As for the awkwardness, I could see that. I guess here I was thinking that Soleene was more in the mood to punch things, even if it was far less efficient and practical, put all of those yellow dice to use! In the end, she did kind of talk her down a ledge and the vibrosword turned out to be a better deal than the blast knuckles she never used. If she went toward the streetwise damage build...it might be more deadly but people's force points would be gone!

As for mechanically...mrm, I think she turned out to be a strange mixed bag. I'm still trying to understand building optimally in this game. It's not everything but I feel the SW system does encourage it. Sad that it took me until this game to understand the dedication talent and gave me something to aim toward, which I got by the end game! I'm probably happy I wasn't entirely useless in battle? I think winning a Fearsome roll would make the build all worth it.

Hm, maybe she should look into branching to another tree after this...

Thank you and I enjoyed that scene too! Admittedly, that was Soleene (which admittedly, also me) trying to grasp more Mandalorian knowledge and it seemed like Clay was pretty engrained. So that likely led to the chain of questions that Clay was subjected to. They weren't coworkers or just mere squadmates but family, so it made sense that she wanted to learn about one of her brothers, especially when he had been quieter in the background. There had to be a greater story there and it seemed like she found it in Clay.

Thank you for being a good sport and rolling with it. I didn't know you had to figure out the answer but I hope my curiosity helped in some way! Looking forward to developing more of this Enclave chronicle!

Soleene being a Zeltron, I was like "..............What?" when I first read it. The Zeltron girlfriend Clay had was something I meant to put in both games. My background will be much better now for Kamda 3. lol. Clay will talk, but it's situational. It the tense situations we were in, it was pretty much snarky quips. lol. Like Raven said in my Q&A, I was much more at home with the character. It was fun figuring things out for the scene. I still have the Shadowrun mentality, don't fall in love with your characters, because they might die at any minute. So, I normally put too much detail in.

Ah, well, we can always do a D11 thread if you so desire!

Haha Varina the voice of reason? That's a first. I think the Blast Knuckles can be kind of fun but straining yourself out with them is questionable imo.

I don't want to take over building for you but I have an obsession with trees in this game. I'm 100% willing to help out if you ever want that.

Thank you for taking part in the game!

I always appreciated seeing Soleene's views and just in general in most every scene I peeked in on and was a part of! Thanks also for the wonderful scenes with the Mixer and beyond too.

It is ever a pleasure writing with you :D

Admittedly, I was wondering how long I could keep the Zeltron thing a secret. It wasn't a huge one, really. Darn Mixer had to ruin everything. *shakes fist*

We can discuss a scene via PM or discord.

She was, when it comes to fighting. This game really needs some sort of powerfist or something. Brawl feels pretty gimmicky. Then again, hand to hand is always gimmicky is most RPG, I've found!

There is another Star Wars game, so I think I will indeed need your help there if I decide to play! Please and thank you! :)

Soleene dressed down in the Mando safehouse was just the best clothing description, btw. And my slowness plus Sofia stepping in meant Dhel couldn't even capitalize on it!

Loved the stylish armor with punchy Mando vibe going on there. Sorry not to interact more/attempt harder flirting levels at the Mando helmet.

Was the Hutt job Obligation landing, or just side plot for some money-making?

Thank you! I assumed that everyone would be in their pyjamas still...after combing through the thread again, I think Soleene was the only person in her pyjamas.

Walking around in armour and RPing around it did have some minor sacrifices involved. I guess one of them was the (lack of) awareness when it comes to flirtation. Seeing as Raven overlooked the same situation, I feel a little less bad admittedly but still a bit bad.

Ah! The Hutt job...was an embarrassingly total coincidence, being at the wrong place at the wrong (right) time and/or not knowing the reputation of the place as a player. It was a legitimate open scene where two other players wandered in knowing what was going to happen. Soleene was just hoping to do some ghost hunting. Seeing the opportunity to do something, she just went along with the ride.
