[D9, MM] Hardware upgrade?

[Korvin Hikarrin]

"Uh, Tens and I were discussing a little improvement to this," he draws the DE-10 very slowly, guessing someone like Mallory doesn't like sudden movements around weapons. "I'm used to something a little quicker on the draw, but this is mostly for things that don't look like they'll, ah, resolve quickly."

[Mallory]

Quirking a brow she continues watching Korvin with that same stare for half a minute. Taking a swig from the beer in her hand she reaches her other hand out, palm up. Expectant.

Korvin, remembering something his sister had taught him and he'd forgotten earlier, slips the blaster's power pack out and into his right pocket as he places the blaster into Mallory's hand.

"This is also a priority situation. If, uh, work can't get done today then we'll have to reschedule," he says, trying to sound both urgent and unbothered if the work can't be done.

"No trust?" she asks, her no-nonsense expression persisting. "What's a rich kid doing with a blaster like this?" she asks, raising it up as she looks over her shoulder to Tens. Holding the bottle low by her waist at the top of the neck.

[Korvin Hikarrin]

"Some people don't like rich kids," he says with conviction, and an edge of danger. "Some rich kids want to make sure they stay rich." It's no doubt a sharper response than she's expecting from the rich kid, but it well summarizes a couple aspects of Korvin's philosophy.

"Smart rich kids also like to pay for things with cash, and keep them simple." He raises an eyebrow at her in return.

[Tenzing]

"Oh you know. Illegal swoop racing. Hanging out with the wrong crowd, by which of course I mean me." Tens seemed amused and took a swig from the bottle.

"Kid was supposed to wait for my advice. Got impatient." He shrugged. "Same old story. Although...at least he picked out something decent."

[Mallory]

Mallory utterly ignored Korvin, least as far as he could tell with the stoic expression she wore looking back to Tens. Regarding the blaster for a moment following his appraisal, then Korvin again. "I'm not the one, kid," she says, even toned. "But I can get this to the one. Give me what you'll spend, tell me what you want, and I'll take care of it."

Korvin glares a little at seeming to be ignored, and looks sideways at Tens when she asks for money. Interpreting his continued calm as encouragement, the young man steps over to a small table and sets down the power pack. Reaching into his jacket, he withdraws a small, metallic looking case that contains a few large-denomination credit chips. Korvin keeps his finger on the case as he describes the project.

"We talked about a [Custom Grip, modded for Accurate +1]. I don't want to sacrifice range, so I think it's gotta lean on precision, not, ah, just hitting harder. What am I missing, Tens?" He asks, continuing to look at Mallory.

[Tenzing]

Tens sipped from the bottle. "Stopping power kid. Big Creds'll get you the best upgrade money can buy." (Base 5000 for Superior). He shrugged. "Or you can just go for punch with an Overcharged Actuating Module." (Base 650 for +1 Damage, 2 threat can damage the weapon one step, option to Mod an extra +1 damage)

[Mallory]

"Fancy," she remarks as she glances over the blaster again. Looking between Korvin and Tensing as she thinks for a moment. Nodding over her shoulder, "Follow me," she walks toward the direction she indicated. Toward a window at the side of her room that lead directly to a fire escape.

Korvin is surprised by the change as he'd been thinking about how much trust he was gonna put in this person, making a face for a moment. But he puts the case of credit chips back inside his jacket, the power pack in an outside pocket, and starts to follow her unless Tens holds back.

[Tenzing]

Tens gestures for the kid to follow Mallory. He follows behind, sipping at the brew and knowing what was coming.

[Mallory]

Leading them out through the window, swinging one leg over and then the other. Mallory waited a second and helped the other two through as the metal stairs outside weren't the best and had stood up thus far to the test of time. Once everyone was out she brought them both down to a small shooting range setup, a couch and a nearby open metal box with some flammable stuff stuffed inside of it. As the day was up she elected not to burn the super cool crate fire.

Showing Korvin his blaster she tosses it onto the couch and walks down range to set up a target dummy.

Korvin shakes his head in disbelief, a flare of impatience rising in his chest. But the young man keeps his mouth shut, strides over to the couch, and reloads the blaster's power pack. With a huff, he steps over to where he assumes he's expected to shoot from and stands ready for whatever Mallory is setting up.

As he waits, Korvin takes two slow, deep breaths, pushing off the irritation and impatience and centering himself. It actually came easier than he expected -- more like when he aligned with Ruby before a race, even though here he didn't seem to have that kind of focus item.

[Mallory]

Walking back from the target she looks to Korvin, then to the blaster in his hand. All the while inspecting it until she returns by where they are but instead of stepping off to the side she walks right up to Korvin and looms over him for a moment. In a quick flash, a trained maneuver, she rips the gun from his hand and then pushes him back with the other.

"Careful," she scolds with a dire sincerity, looking the blaster over and disengaging it. Removing the pack in another fluid motion she thrusts both into his hands immediately. "Don't walk up with a loaded blaster till I'm off the range," she says, before flicking his head.

[That's fine!]

[Tenzing]

Tenzing leaned against the wall, watching. The kid was being prickly, fortunately Mallory was a pro. He watched her disarm him easily, the lesson would be good for him. He sipped the beer and looked over at the target.

Turned out to be very fortunate that Korvin had calmed himself just before Mallory making her point, so he wasn't going to react immediately. After a pause as his shock dissipated, he cast an angry glare at Tens, as though she was his responsibility. With only a smirk and a raise of Tens' beer in response, the young man huffed and then brought himself back to center.

With his eyes closed, Korvin slowly but smoothly slides the power pack back into the DE-10 again. Opening his eyes, he takes a firing stance and lines up the shot through the blaster's sight. As he exhales, he pulls the trigger.

Three bolts, unbelievably all exactly on top of one another the dummy's head was nearly scorched through. Mallory offers a low whistle as she looks at it, "Nice shot," she says, and then looks to Korvin. When he looks to her she flicks him in the head again, "Crap attitude."

Korvin's eyes close and he deflates.

"Ok," he says, half groaning the letters. But he finds a polite tone as he asks sincerely, "What else would you like me to do?"

[Mallory]

"Just give me your shopping list. And the credits," she says, walking over toward the couch and she starts looking around. However, there was no beer in sight and there's a very visible rise and fall to her shoulders as she sighs. When did she even put it down?
