Missing Person [D5, ME, Event]

by Meiyokashi
Event Type: Cooperative, Tiered Sections, Progressive
Participants: Limited (All players may join, limited number of rolls)
Timeslot: Middle Evening [Major Portion] Late Evening [Singular PC Thread, if sections are successful]

[Preceding Thread: viewtopic.php?f=45&t=469]

Mara and her people are preparing to begin their investigation into the Clinic in the Lower City, a place that has aroused suspicion by many. However, while they prepare for this they've noticed that Petra hasn't been around since earlier in the evening and isn't responding on comms. Worried by this Mara has called for those who are able and willing to hopefully do their part and see that she's alright.

Working together, those that go out feed one another information and aid to get the next person closer and closer toward their goal in tracking down Petra.

Event:

[This is a cooperative event I highly suggest players talk through together in OOC to work toward their goal.]

Each PC may only roll ONCE during the entirety of this event, with the exception of the Negotiator whom cannot roll in any section aside from the final thread.

Each section will be defined via Character Roles for this event, there are Four Sections, Lookout, ???, ???, Negotiator.

One of the most important rolls to decide on in OOC is the Negotiator, the one who will inevitably be the person they send to Petra to talk to her once they find her. This negotiator roll will be responsible for a roleplay thread between the character and Petra which will ultimately decide the outcome of the event.

Characters who are familiar with Petra will have an easier time of this, but if none are available my suggestion is to send someone with the ability to smoothly talk to someone.

Each section will be unlocked upon completion of the previous section, meaning that players will be unaware of the rolls needed later on.

Roll result rules:
  • Advantage and Threat will be used on a 2 to 1 scale granting Boosts and Setback to the next roller.
  • Triumphs will be able to Upgrade the check of the next roller, or proc a side-benefit for the roller.
  • Despair will cause something unfortunate to happen, GM discretion.
Section One: Lookouts

Perception vs Formidable: This roll must be passed in order to pass into Section 2.

The Section-Roll above may be supported by other characters succeeding a roll at Average from the below list, each roll lowers the difficulty by 1:
(Ex: A support roll succeeds, the overall Section Roll's difficulty is now Daunting)

Support Rolls:

Perception: may be used to help cover more ground as a lookout.
Athletics: may be used to help a lookout into a tough spot or position.
Computers: may be used to slice into security feeds, turning over cameras to a lookout.
Skulduggery: may be used to break a lookout into a location with a good view.

GM Destiny Spend on the first 10 support rolls.

Additionally, I will spend Destiny on every Section Roll.

This is 13 Destiny spent overall at base.

If there was anything that Manny was good at, it was getting people into places that they weren't supposed to be. Usually it was him, but sometimes it was other people. And sometimes those places were a roof with a good vantage point, sometimes they were boxes, or safes.

"Nothing up my sleeve!" Manny said, grinning, and rolling up his sleeves to display. "Also, have an egg!" He handed over the egg he'd just pulled from his rolled up sleeve.

Should've just sent the Mandos out to reclaim Petra by force. At least that was Raven's opinion, but she respected the Kayde's call that they wouldn't resort to hostilities. At least not yet.

So for now, Raven moved swiftly through the Middle City, avoiding patrols as she covered a large area. Long legs made good for running, and she had plenty of stamina to back it up with.

Varina sat on the roof, watching over the city she'd scoured in search of her mother. It was a place she hated, now, for wasting her time, for giving her hope. It seemed like Raven and the rest of her friends cared about whatever was happening, though, so she had to be there. Maybe it was her penitence for not helping with the other objectives too.

"Don't just be quick, be thorough," she chatted over her comlink. Her eyes glanced over the feed and then looked back out to the city. Maybe I'll find somebody this time.

It was a small disturbance in the street but enough to catch Varina's eye. A few stormtroopers making their way down the block stopped a small crowd to check through them. It was a small disturbance in the flow of traffic but not the only one as another individual stopped some way down from the troopers, the red hair poking out among the faces. Varina would watch as the head ducked down and moved into an alleyway near a construction site to escape detection.

Sending this over the commlink others would be able to follow in toward the alley and see if they can't catch up with the girl. Following behind they catch a glimpse of Petra as she finishes a climb and looks back, too far away to shout to her she quickly squeezes her way into the construction site through a mostly closed metal door.

Section 2: The Bridge

Maneuvering through the construction site is difficult work, but with the help from a few individuals the negotiator can be walked through and helped to get up into the position where they saw Petra enter.

Coordination (Agility) vs Hard: This roll must be passed in order to pass into Section 3.
  • This roll represents squeezing into the door Petra used to enter the building and then using their body to pry open the door enough for the negotiator to slip through.
Necessary Rolls (2): Two of the below options must be passed before the Coordination roll is attempted. Further success' decrease difficulty by 1.
  • These represent creating an patchwork but easily climbable path up toward the opening Petra used.
Ranged (Light): to toss a grapple hook up toward the landing where Petra entered from.
Athletics: to give a boost to the individuals who need to climb up to the landing.
Piloting (Planetary): may be used to bring over a vehicle to aid in getting up to the landing.
Deception: may be used to distract some of the troopers and give the team a bit more time to get the negotiator into place.

Special: Boosts from Varina go toward the first Coordination attempt regardless of when it is attempted.

"These are not the droids you're looking for," Tyllia approached a couple of imperial troopers and waved her hand in front of them.

"What?" One of them looked puzzled even though his expression could not be seen beneath the helmet.

"These are not the..." She waved her hand again.

"We know!" the other trooper barked, "we're *not* looking for any droids."

"Besides," the first trooper had found his composure again "in the first place, there aren't any droids around here anyway, so it's kind of weird to say 'these' are not the droids we're looking for."

"But we're not looking for any..."

"Right, right. But my point is that if she's referring to them in that manner then you'd expect there to be a few droids nearby that she's referring to right?"

"Uhm, right?"

"Look, it's simple. 'These' droids implies the droids are close by. 'Those' droids implies the droids are further away but still within visual range."

"I mean that depends on the context, doesn't it? If we happened to be talking about a couple of droids that we're looking for, then 'those' droids could be used to refer to them even if they're not presently within our visual range."

"Yes, I suppose that's correct. But then you could also argue the same about 'these'..."

"You could, if you were the sort to go for colloquialisms like that. Personally I don't think it's the correct way to use those words."

Tyllia had already moved on; her non-sequitur distraction having worked like a charm.

Using Tyllia's wonderful diversion, Phroth drove past and Sholua leapt down with the negotiator, only to be boosted up by Deonis and then take Tenzing's grapple to where they needed to be. Now it was all Sholua.

Diving into the space the red head had been seen entering she pushed the door as far as it would go and braced her feet against the opposite edge. A moment to let the Force flow through her and she arched her back upwards. Easily enough space for the negotiator to pass through with ease.

Slipping into the building with everyone's aid it was up to the negotiator now. Inside the building was dark, but they could make out workbenches and tools in the dark. Slowly and carefully proceeding forward they kept their eyes peeled, calling out to and just looking for Petra here. For a few minutes they searched but were finding nothing until they noticed the sliver of light. Sneaking through the building up to it they caught sight of Petra. Steeping out and calling to her Petra turned. Startled, however, by the sudden appearance she ducked into the room from where the light was and suddenly an alarm was tripped within the building.

Rushing forward to catch up with Petra the negotiator would find a large durasteel door sealing shut before them, some safe-room that was being worked into whatever this place would once be. Coming back onto the comms they informed the others of the snag in the plan but luckily.. they weren't lost yet.

Section 3: Tech Support

Slicing into the buildings security network they see that the place is lighting up due to a number of breaks in the system causing alarms to raise and lock down the vault room.

Computers (Intellect) vs Formidable: This roll must be passed in order to pass into the Final Section, the Negotiator.

Across the building there are a number of problems due to the condition that it's mid-construction causing alarms to raise in the security system. Solving these problems at the locations would go a long way toward helping the team to slice through the security walls.

Each of these support rolls may only be succeeded once, with each success decreasing the difficulty of the Computers check as well as adding a boost to it. Setbacks gained from threat on these rolls apply to the final Computers roll regardless of when rolled.

Support rolls are at Average as before.

Mechanics: can help by patching up some of the holes in the system.
Resilience: can be used to hold a device in place which needs to maintain position to keep an alarm from going on, they'll be there a while.
Medicine: can be used to clear some fumes in one of the rooms, a substance spilled and with the right know-how another solution will diffuse it.
Skulduggery: can be used to show that breaking into places is all about knowing how to shut off certain alarms.

Two Boosts pass down to the Final Computers Roll from Sholua.

Dr. Ven joined the search team. This place was an... interesting place for Petra to hole up. Though by repute, it seemed knowing the city was her specialty. Still-

-wait.

Okay, what idiot left those cleaning supplies over plascrete? Every child is warned not to do that. Hell, the big red warning label is right there. Now, there's a noxious cloud floating around that just... ugh.

Aanli went over to a work bench, aerosolized some rubbing alcohol, and started spraying down the room to neutralize the reaction before the fumes killed anybody.
