[D9, MM] Hardware upgrade?

As Korvin settled Ruby into a safe looking parking space just down the block from Tens' favorite gear store, he absent-mindedly patted the new holster on his right thigh. The look on his face betrayed some guilt that he hadn't waited for Tens' input, which he really wanted, but it was too late to do anything about that. Now he mostly just needed it to turn out that he made an ok choice on his own.

"If you're actually a piece of junk, I'm never going to hear the end of it from Tens," Korvin says, patting his new blaster.

"Hey kid, how's the head?" Tens grinned as he walked down the street towards Korvin. He had a kaff in each hand and handed one over.

"Sorry I bailed yesterday. Hope you didn't buy a piece of junk?" He gestured towards the holster. It was easy access. Tens favoured a pair of concealed holsters, for many reasons. He figured the kid didn't need to worry about that though.

Korvin grins. "I've had way worse hangovers," he admits, though he's still quick to take the kaff and get a quick drink into him.

"Yeah, I kinda couldn't wait," he says, a little nervous despite Tens' pleasant tone. "And it wasn't just this," he says, indicating the big holster strapped to his thigh. Unzipping his leather jacket all the way, he reveals a concealment holster under his arm for a second blaster.

"So my old HL-27 is up here now," he gestures with the kaff cup, "and then this is brand new. Well, to me, anyway."

Korvin unholsters a long, gleaming blaster pistol -- with the telescopic sight it almost looks like a small carbine -- and offers the grip to Tens for an inspection. "Antrech DE-10 I guess it's called," Korvin says, a bit unsure but clearly proud as well. "It doesn't draw as quick as the HL-27, but it's, ah, kinda for when things aren't just quick to resolve."

Tens chuckled. "So you don't need me after all huh? A DE-10. Now that's a nice piece. Accurate out to a long range so you don't need a rifle. Maintenance is easy and they're hard to break." He nodded approvingly.

"Blue bolts means it's easy to tell what you're packing, but that's probably okay. So what's the deal? You just want to tune it up a bit?"

"Bleeh, um, yes?" Korvin stammers, stuck on whether "blue bolts" was something he should understand and slow on processing the words that came after. "I'm, uh..." He lowers his voice as he looks around. "Just in case I have to deal with something more alarming than a stray Gonk, right? I mean, I'm no soldier, but I gotta be able to do my part."

The determined look on Korvin's face is probably one he's seen on young would-be warriors before.

Tens gave him a funny look. "Have you, ah, actually fired this yet kid? I'd better get you out to the range, set up some targets." The DE-10 was renowned for being one of the few weapons that fired blue bolts of energy, rather than the more typical red.

"Anyway, we can get you set up with a custom grip for starters. That'll make it easier for you, and harder for anyone else who grabs your blaster."

"Well no," Korvin admitted, hiding slightly behind the kaff cup. "But I did just get it yesterday. And hey," he warms up immediately, "a custom grip? That sounds really good."

He glances toward the store, but asks another question before moving. "Do you think, like, heavier armor is something I need?" He thumps the Koromondain that's showing through his open jacket. It gives him the bulky look he had during the Lower City race, but isn't especially noticeable when covered with a medium-weight jacket.

"I could shoot you a few times and we can find out?" The deadpan tone is somewhat disrupted by the wink. Looking at the armour he shakes his head.

"Are you overtly going to go looking for trouble kid? Because if you are then you may as well save up for a full suit of Battle armour and go join the Mandos or someone's private army. Anything heavier than that, stuff you can't conceal under a jacket, is advertising that either you can dish it out, or you're looking to receive it."

"Er. Right. That's... Good point, Tens," Korvin said, eyes a little wide with the revelation.

"Thanks, really, for helping with all this. It's, ah..." He ran a hand over his face and into his hair. "A couple weeks ago, I thought the most dangerous thing in my life is the weird guy buying my dad's business. But... Yeah." The honest, tired, thankful look on his face was probably more clear than his thoughts standing there.

"Hey, don't sweat it." He clapped Korvin on the shoulder. "You know, you could go for some tailored armoured clothing. Its more concealed and more robust. Or even Berethron if you can afford it, and if my contact has access."

He shrugged. "With those you can pack in some optional extras too eventually. Anyway, let's go see my friend and hook you up."

Tenzing led Korvin off away from the store that the kid had been expecting.

Korvin's almost so confused by all the options that Tens describes that he doesn't notice the redirection that's happening. He makes a confused face and remarks, "Oh, so we're going...ok." Between being out of his depth, a smidge hung over, and very trusting of Tens, Korvin plasters a smile on his face and just follows along with the older man.

They would eventually themselves in a half-abandoned portion of the middle city they come upon the run-down apartment building that Tenzing has been to plenty of times. There's few tenants here, and probably a couple more squatters, and the place is most certainly rundown. With the room in question being on the second floor, but Tenz also knows a side-entrance to use in case of bad vibes in the front of the place. At the moment, there didn't seem to be any of those.

"Just act like you belong here and no-one'll care." He looked at the kid tensing up. "Just. Fly casual?"

With a grin he keyed in a message to Mallory to let her know he was here with the guest he'd mentioned. Then he led Korvin through the front door and towards the stairs.

Inside the place was as worn down and dirty as the outside, with clutter in the way in a number of places. Up at the top of the stairs one of the lights were flickering. Mallory's place was up the stairs, around the banister and three doors down on the right.

Just as they got inside a message pinged back,

It looked pretty crappy, which was a solid disguise if you didn't want to attract attention. "Follow me in kid." Tens led Korvin through the building and up to the door. No knock, no buzz, he just walked right on in.

Inside her room Mallory was holding the long-neck of a beer bottle of some kind, suit jacket off she was still walking around with the tie and white shirt, dress pants as well. When they entered she was just standing in the middle of the room off to the side. Other hand in her pocket she gave a nod toward Tens, "Hey."

Tens nodded back with a small smile. "Hey." He thumbed towards the kid. "Mallory, Korvin. Kid, Mallory."

The place had never seemed particularly lived-in, she was a professional after all. He glanced from her bottle to the fridge and back, then gave a little smirk and raised an eyebrow. "Mind if I join you?" Of course she wouldn't, but they had their little rituals by now.

Korvin, relying on Tens and keeping his mouth shut, had taken a deep breath before they walked through the door. At the introduction, he gave a respectful nod to Mallory and tried to just stand there coolly until called upon. Tens knows what he's doing ran through his head on a regular basis.

"Sure," she says, focusing on Korvin as she takes a swig from her bottle. Giving a quick glance without moving her head in the direction of the fridge to convey that little extra permission. Hand still in her pocket she shifts more onto the opposite leg, measuring Korvin and sizing him up. Eyes that seem to suggest she was expecting something out of him.

Tens smiled and walked over to the fridge. He took a while selecting a beer to give Korvin a chance. There was something about Mallory that he just found...relaxing.

"Hmm. Think I'll go with...you." He took his time opening it too.
