Meeting Valkyrie, Redux (D5, MA)

After having spent a couple of hours in the base, Raven eventually asked her way through the unfamiliar area to speak with the Valkyrie, assuming the Ordo woman had cooled her heels after what happened earlier.
The ways of the Raiders were different from what she was used to, but it seemed at least that they had not forgotten to be Mando'ade.

Following some suggestions from the Raiders, Raven was able to find her way to a small setup just outside one of the ships. Items of sentimental value and actual use were scattered among one another. Reibelle was there, sitting on a rather fine armchair that was surely stolen at one time or another. Busying herself with cleaning a GALAAR-15 blaster rifle.

At least she could acknowledge that Reibelle had similarly good taste in weaponry, seeing that they both sported the same type of rifle. Raven's was slung away on her back, underneath the cloak, making it difficult to retrieve swiftly.
Clearing her throat, she greeted "Valkyrie? Got a moment to spare for a guest?"

"Got all day these days," there was a distraction to her voice that wasn't unexpected as continues with the blaster for half a minute. Looking back up from it to see Raven standing before glancing toward another seat hidden among her things. Setting the rifle down by the side of her seat she extended the other hand toward it and said, "Sit."

Taking the offered seat, Raven had to shift and adjust her own gear slightly. The sling of her own GALAAR rifle was removed and placed down beside her seat, similarly to Reibelle's.
"Got a good group here it seems. I can see why there was a thought that the Raiders and the Rebuilders could bring our strengths together."

"That was Carid's thought-" it was sharply said like a harsh reminder but this tone of it dulled rather than softened. Still, she corrected herself slightly, informing instead, "Most of those you see here didn't go to that meeting because I spoke against the idea. Many agreed. Your.. Mandalore, as he claims to be, is not the first person and not even the only person in this galaxy aiming to claim that title right now. So far, he's just a pretender with a posse."

"Though not his alone," Raven replied calmly. Some of the Rebuilders had believed the same too, to make it happen. And then there was Silas.
"Many others have claimed, yes, or claim the same, but none have matched the weight behind his claim like he has. I'm curious why you spoke against the idea, to not see for yourself... after all, isn't the saying to judge a man's worth by the allies he keeps and the enemies he makes?"

"A true Mand'alor would inspire no question, and I still question. That's enough for me.. I've already bled enough for our politics. I'll let a Mand'alor prove themselves by their own merit before I come to heel," she says with a glower. "We didn't go cause we're raiders, not fighters for someone else's cause. We pick our own battles, claim our own glory, and enjoy our own spoils."

Why were there so many old and bitter Mandalorians around. Kind of hopeless to try to argue with many of those.
Raven had to do what she tended to do though, which was to open her stupid mouth.
"So, to you, the Mando'ade become nothing more than shadows of our legacy, remembered only in the end as squabbling warriors who became lapdogs to the empire or pirates." While she mostly appeared calm, she didn't hide the conviction in her voice.
Then, she shrugged. "I don't care for politics either, but this is where I'm at, to best ensure that the ways of the Mando'ade are restored and kept alive. I can't force you to acknowledge his claim, but that also puts me at odds with sharing what leads we have on Carid at the moment if no common ground can be found."

"Take him on alone if you want- doesn't matter to me. So long as he winds up dead for what he's done the Salky Raiders will be happy," she shrugs, leaning down and reclaiming the rifle from her side. Turning it over in her lap she looked to Raven, "The Mando'ade lives on through everyone who follows the code, and the code calls for us to follow Mand'alor, not every pretender who puts a claim on the title. When we have a Mand'alor again you'll find me back home but until then- I've battles to fight and glory to win."
"Glory I'm willing to find in taking down the one who betrayed me. Share what leads you have, you have a friend in the fight, but the Salky Raiders do as we please, not as your leader declares. "

It was easy to see where Varina got it from. The vexing attitude, though instead of a prickly teen it was a bitter old woman this time. Raven figured this was one of those instances where she was not the best negotiator for this kind of woman, who was old and uncaring of the future.
"I see Varina takes after you much," Raven seemed slightly amused about this, all things considered.
So here she was, weighing the options. It would probably be impossible to get Reibelle to agree to anything remotely about bringing their groups together, but... perhaps there'd be a greater chance of persuading the Raiders as a whole, once they had shared in the glory of battle together. "Our current lead is what seems to be a planned raid on an Imperial transport that will be in the region soon. The exact details aren't known to us, but we do have the vessels signature."

"So we find the ship they want to hit, wait.. and then hit it with them on it. Trapped like a can of womp rats, easy. So.. this signature, you have one of your people on it you said?" she asked, the woman's tone went straight to setting up the pieces.

There was the mind of a woman interested in a fight, and clearly less so about politics.
"We have someone analysing it, yes." (I assume Jyr's done or doing that? ^^; This is way outside of Raven's wheelhouse) "If it's your interest in joining forces for this, I will pass you the information. You have a reputation for raiding Imperial vessels, so your input would be a tactical edge most likely."

"Always happy to surprise the imps," she said with a smirk that would set common folks with unease. "If they can get it, good. Otherwise.. we have some contacts we can dig up. Don't go raiding Imperial vessels without having a trick or two to find 'em," she says, glancing around the camp. One thing was certainly true with the weaponry and tools they had here..
"We've also got more ships- so I hear," she was smug.
[Jyrvess certainly could, she'd need to get access to an Imperial terminal at the Spaceport most likely.]

"We have it covered." She didn't want to just hand it all over to Reibelle that easily.
The barb on more ships drew a raised eyebrow, her thoughts written on her face. Really?
"That may be so. I haven't counted, though some seemed to need maintance. Hopefully done before the window of opportunity closes." Judging by how busy Clay was, he'd probably make it possible. She had wanted to say something like and we have a Basilisk but it would've been a hollow kind of boast since it didn't even work yet.

"We'll be ready," she said with that sharp confidence. Though.. her expression shifted, turned.. different. Glancing off toward the camp at large on a thought but returning to Raven no different. Forcing on a stoic expression as she squared her shoulders.
Turning the rifle somewhat to the side as it sat on her uncomfortably, "Those warriors that follow you.. they will be ready when the time comes?"

She had a few guesses what might've been crossing Reibelle's mind when she heard the question. "They'll be ready," she said at first without hesitation. Then she was reminded of Varina.
Could she even count on Varina these days? The teen seemed unable to make up her mind of what she wanted to do most of the time lately.

"Varina.. she, doesn't wear the armor?" she asks, the words tense.

Oh boy. The moment had an awkward feel to it, like she was a teacher giving the end of the school-year evaluation of a student to the parent.
"No, she doesn't," Raven said at first, then paused, clearly indicating she had more to say but it was a matter of formulating it.
"She is... struggling, following the ways of the Mando'ade. A lot of it, I think, is sheer rebellion or that she doesn't want to be..." her words drifted off, but it was kind of clear who Varina didn't want to be like. "I try to set an example to her, but easier said than done when she is headstrong and wants to go her own way."
Not that Varina had proved she was even ready to be considered an adult by Mandalorian traditions. Then again, her father hadn't seen to it and her mother had run off, so what could you do? "Still, I trust her in a fight. If she set her mind to it, she could be a fine warrior some day and wear the armor too."

Reibelle was patient, listening with care to every word as Raven spoke. Once Raven finished Reibelle then took her time to consider, calling upon Raven's patience. Though give that time she eventually rose from her seat, lifting the rifle passively into her hands, looking down to Raven.
"I hope she'll be whatever she needs, and wants, to be," she lingered on that for a moment but finished, "Thank you," she said, and then moved to head toward her ship.
