[D5 MA] Flower Picking of the Damned

Posted: Thu May 20, 2021 11:04 am
by Dr. Aanli Ven
Dr. Ven trekked through the swamp, interest thoroughly piqued. The Empire had classified basically everything official about this place, and everything unofficial sounded like cryptid stories. How can an entire section of the surface of an inhabited planet be this poorly documented? Probably not happy reasons, but certainly scientifically interesting.

"Thank you for joining the expedition, everyone. Hopefully this will shed some light on whatever the good doctor's been up to." She looks out into the gloom, "Perhaps literally."

Not much further and they should be good to collect some samples. Just an ordinary research expedition, no matter how spooky the setting.

"If the Empire wants something here...better we know what it is" said the mandalorian as he inspected his weapon once more

"But man Do I hate swamps"

She had heard through the backchannels that someone within the resistance was organizing an expedition into a place that had started becoming rather familiar to her. It had also pinged on her radar because she had previously learned of an imperial scientist with an interest in the place... which was all manner of suspicious to her.

So, she had negotiated her way into joining this little expedition. At the very least, she needed to make sure anyone else learned of what truly lurked here in the swamp. Learned of its nature. And who was connected to it. Ironically, finding out what the doctor wanted here, might end up giving the others too much insight into the matter; yet Tyllia wanted very much to know also.

It was a problem.

She followed along; seemingly undisturbed by the nature of the place.

Deonis had similarly been pinged about the trip and offered to go along since he was rather familiar with the Swamp and its inhabitants.

He moved along with the group standing near Tyllia but other than that being his usually quiet self.

Swamps were well known for their dangers. You all have known this for some time, especially with many of you coming here more than once. Though, you're not alone here. Your senses, for many of you, are in tune to what is going on in here. For others, there is a push against you. And for one, a pull of go in the opposite direction of where everyone else is going; A need to wander away from those you have chosen to come with.

Definitely some new sensations for you.

It's dark in this swamp, and the mud you're going thru isn't making this experience any better. Hard to think that creatures in here can not only survive in this setting, but thrive.

Best to keep your eyes open for now; never know what may be lurking out in this dark muck.

It's just field work... it's just field work... it's just field work...

Aanli's attention turned inward as she tried to steady her breathing, to calm herself down from... something?

Deonis wasn't the most perceptive of people but perhaps the time he spent here had allowed him to better pick out things that don't belong.

Tyllia and Deonis, you are both apt to the sudden movements in the darkness. The other ones, not so much. You two catch what you thought were branches flap around, but manage to react first before anyone has a chance to do something, as a large red creature with whipping tentacles starts to charge at your group! You are able to grab your weapons before it gets in close, while the others are fumbling around.

Sadly, Dr. Ven was too lost in her own thoughts to notice the giant tentacle monster until it was upon them all.

If it had just been Deonis and her, she would've gone for her new weapon. These other two though... revealing that card wasn't something she wanted to do unless it felt absolutely *necessary*.

So, by instinct, she grabbed her training stick instead.

Even if it seemed like that would be woefully insufficient against whatever the hell this thing was. She might have to re-evaluate soon, but for now she was armed with... a stick.

"Now would be the time to start shooting!"

Deonis saw the tentacles at whipped the large sword out with unnatural speed for such a large weapon. He shifted to interpose himself between the beast and the others.

A rathtar? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within the swamp?

Interesting. That begs all manner of questions about the ecology of the swamp.

Aanli's grip tightened on her blaster. She hated the damn thing. And shots already fired, so looks like sparing the ecosystem was off the table. Dammit.

D5MA Xenology, setback negated, 2 swamp upgrades: 1eA+3eP+1eD+3eC 1 success, 1 threat

Welp. No boosts. I'll eat that threat as a strain unless Flession says otherwise.

Well, you know what you're facing. That is quite the good thing. Just need to keep blasting it until it dies. The blasts definitely connected, but the creature just mostly shrugged it off, far as you could tell. Going to need a few more good hits like that to make it regret coming over here.

Man, does that thing move quickly. It rushes over to the area where the Mandalorian is and starts to flail away with its tentacles at him, being the easiest thing to see here.
