Day 1 LA, Salvage at Saphs

Now SCaT knows that a lot of people tend to swarm an old building that was known for having wealth. Good thing people only look for things like gold and jewels. Why would those matter when you have plenty of well polished iron poles to grab! But first, looking around just in case those flesh bags overlooked some already made mechanical components.
(Perception to find it?)

Varina was one of those sorts of people hoping to make a big score. It was ingrained in her by now to scavenge. Is this really the best place to look? It seemed like a pretty common spot. However, it was perhaps a good way to acclimate herself to the planet before going into more dangerous and potentially more fruitful areas.
What she did find was a B1 battle droid wandering about. Maybe it was still programmed to fight on behalf of the CIS! She drew her blaster and kept it tucked behind her back, watching it like the delinquent teen she was. It probably looked like a mugging even though she'd supposedly given that up.

The old droid noticed the girl coming, even suspected she pulled out a gun from the way her hand was behind her back. It did not wish to draw attention if it could avoid so. Sadly, that meant playing dumb for now and simply taking a closer look at the pole it could see from half a mile away. An old support maybe? Hopefully they could be extracted without damaging the structure beyond repair. That would most definitely end all chances of getting away from here unnoticed.

What made a sapient being? Was it fleshiness or simply the ability to think? Could droids even be fully capable of free will? It didn't seem like this relic from the past was armed with any sort of rifle.
Well, she was clearly armed, and it wasn't, so she was feeling more confident with confronting it outright. "Why haven't you been turned into scrap yet by the Imperials?"

"Reprogrammed to do salvage work. Far cheaper to shift some wires than to melt down a droid and they can get revenge by forcing me to go to all the crash sites and handle all the corpses. Similar to your kind taking prisoners of war and making them dig graves for their fallen allies."

"That's a grim way to put it." Varina considered stuffing her pistol back into its holster. However, her eyes widened and she took a step back. "So you work for them instead? I didn't realize the Empire would have a single scavenger as part of an operation."

"Not for the Empire directly, but the company that powered me up again used that as the excuse to let me persist and the Empire permitted it. One cannot survive for 10 years as contraband, regardless of what you believe. And unlike a Jedi, you can't hide what makes a battle droid special. We were built for war, so most people default to assuming we are still belligerent. If I were working for the Empire, I presume I would still know how to shoot one of those, just working in planets where people don't care, like Tatooine, nothing happens there."

"I suppose they can take away your ability to shoot." Satisfied enough, Varina holstered her pistol and crossed her arms. It sounded nice, in a way, to be able to just forget how to do it. Maybe then she'd have a bigger excuse if she ever wanted to not fight. However, it was also a way to strip identity. Complicated stuff for a teen to consider.
"You probably have a lot of stories then. Ever run into Death Watch or the like?" That wasn't a brag in the least. Instead, she was searching for something.

"I was actually the mechanic who deployed the boarding ships that went after the Coronet. My brain was turned off during that part though, standard procedure to avoid overload you know. But I do have a neural recorder and it allowed me to get glimpses into how Death Watch moved."

"Did you see any of them without helmets on?" That was doubtful and she wasn't even sure what she'd do with that information. "I don't need to know more about their tactics or anything like that."

"Well, considering that the few times I interacted with them were delivering supplies to training grounds, no. Assuming from the questions you're asking that one of those guys killed your family? Wouldn't be surprised, especially after they bent the knee to the Shadow Collective."

"No. Actually-" Varina cut herself off. Why would she reveal more about the why to some random droid she just met? "I heard there're other Mandalorians on this planet though. Salky Raiders, though I can't be sure if they were connected to Death Watch or not."

"Got ya, so a head hunt then. Sadly I haven't seen too many of your kind on this planet, and even when I did, I don't know what makes a 'Salty Raider' different from any of the other hundred factions by looks alone. I wish you luck on your vengeance and that your actions don't force the Empire to tighten their leash to the point where I would be forced to be melted away."

"Got ya, so they'll do something obnoxious like tie-dye their armor so it looks more like a modern art piece than functional?"

"What, no. I mean they don't have the same color coordination as Death Watch or the Imperial Super Commandos."

"So they do have a color coordination though?"

"No, no, it's like... you know how people like to wear different clothes to express themselves? Like some people wear blue jackets, some people wear red, and so on."

"Oh, I thought they were just following different trend setters. I mean they all seem to wear the same 3 brands, almost the exact same style of shirt depending on their class, and always wear some sort of uniform on their way to this thing called 'a job'."
