[D9 MM] Friendly Bout

(Expecting but open if you'd like to watch.)

Deonis had messaged Raven to meet him at the hangout as he thought it would be a good space for their little spar they discussed at the mixer the previous night.

He had found a fairly open space, it was more than large enough and had been used for storage but whatever had been stored there had been used or moved. He did some minor cleaning to make it a truly good space for sparring and sat waiting for her to show.

The silent movement of her armor did not alert to her arrival, but soon enough the familiar figure appeared, removing her cloak so that it no longer concealed her Mandalorian armor and wouldn't get in the way during their spar.

"You still live, Deonis," she offered the traditional Mandalorian greeting, but in Basic. It felt like the kind of greeting he'd appriciate. "Not too hung over from last night?" she asked with a cheeky grin, as her helmet was attached to her belt.

The helmeted man looked up to her a slight hiss as he removed his own helmet grinning back to her as hid long black hair fell out to past his shoulders "Would take more than those drinks to do me in Cadera." He replied rising. His own cloak laid draped over a box nearby with his large sword, lightsaber, and a blaster rifle.

"How does the morning treat you?"

"Woke up knowing that today I will fight, so it's a good morning," she said with an amused chuckle. It was a good die for Carid to die.

"I am curious to see how well you swing that big sword. The czerhander is a popular weapon for many frontliners, at least for those with the strength to wield it effecively." With a glance to the sword nearby, she looked back to him with an approving nod. He did seem more than competent physically to wield it.

OOC: How do we do it? A number of opposed rolls with no difficulty? Assuming no injuries either since it's a spar. :)

He raised an eyebrow a slight smile on his lips "you trust that Beskar a lot. Sparring with a vibroblade is dangerous." He cautioned but if she wanted to He wouldn't say no

"A blade of its length is what I trained with. The weight did take some getting used to." He explained looking to the sword.

Sure! Best of 3? Most successes with advantage tie breaker? Triumphs count as an additional success?

"Ah, right..." she had for a moment forgotten that he was similar to Phroth in that regard. How did these folks learn to wield a weapon that had almost no weight to it except the hilt?

"Well, unless you have any practice weapons, real weaponry it is. A test of our skill and control, in a way. But, yes," Raven chuckled, patting the armor over her heart, at the wing-like motif there. "A warrior must trust their beskar'gam."

OOC: That sound good! :D

Deonis nodded and put his helmet back on walking over and grabbing the big sword picking it up in one hand and shifting holding it In two moving to a starting position and lowering into a fighting stance "Well then. Shall we dance?"

When Raven was ready he would launch into an attack handling the blade much more gracefully than a weapon of its size is usually handled.

"This kind of dance I actually know," she chuckled, putting on her own helmet. Readying herself with her blade, she stood calmly with the weapon between the two of them.

Raven was a patient fighter, letting the mountain move first against her. Right away she could tell that he had the advantage of size and strength as she felt pushed back by the force behind the attack as she blocked, causing her to fall back on older tactics from before she had grown as tall and muscular as she had today, by dipping in a low stance to do what would've been a cut to his thigh normally. But with the level of control they both had, she hit him with the flat-side of the blade.

It would leave a bruise under the armor, but nothing more. She was clearly skilled in handling the weapon and adapting to her opponent's moves.

Continuing her movement forward, her body twisted in an attempt to deliver a blow to his back.

It was clear Raven was the more skilled combatant even if Deonis was stronger. Maybe he was more tired than he appeared, made the blow to his leg threw off his balance but he failed to block her return blow and she easily parried his attack.

He gathered himself shaking off the dull ache in his leg "You certainly are a bit more skilled than me."

Chuckling, she adjusted her stance with some distance between them. "What can I say... Mandalorian?" she was clearly enjoying herself, based off her tone.

With the brief breather, she observed his stance once more, then moved in with a skillful feint, pretending to be aiming for his neck, but before the strike could be completed her objective was to duck in once more with a blow of the pommel to his solar plexus. If his species even had that.

If only Orokos rolled this well when I'm fighting for real.

He blocked where the blow looked like it was coming from but the pommel strike landed cleanly on his solar plexus that he did indeed have. His lungs spasmed a little and he had to catch his breath on the fly.

He turned his blade, he really did have a surprising amount of control with the large weapon but perhaps having to use restraint with it was slowing him to much. He struck out cleanly but Raven was easily able to deflect the strike.

Weaving and evading the larger weapon, Raven proved herself remarkably nimble for wearing so much armor. Not only the benefit of her own training and instincts, but also the virtue of an armor made for her specifically with thought put into how to best suit its wielder. Still she raised her weapon to deflect the strike, once more being pushed back slightly by the more impressive strength of the blade's wielder as well as its sheer mass against her lighter sword.

"You really are quite strong," she remarked as she stepped back, feeling she had the upper hand the entire way.

He swung the blade into its holder on his back and nodded "you're quite skilled. Also stronger than you look. She was likely about as strong as his raw physical strength when he wasn't using the force to augment his power but that was second nature to him at this point.

"Whoever taught you did a good job. You're as formidable as I thought you would be."

"Thank you. I owe much to my parents, and my partner, for their guidance. And... to some degree to the life I've led." Returning her sword to its scabbard, Raven reached up to remove her helmet.

"You're incredibly strong. Probably some of the strongest in raw physical power I've met. A great advantage to have, but someday you'll meet someone just as strong but more skilled."

He inclines his head. "Thank you. I am trying to get better. Strength has been enough for now. One day it won't be though. You are right." He rolled his neck a little as a stretch "It is evident I need to keep practicing though."

"Practice is good," she nodded, rubbing a bit at her arms. It had taken some effort to block blows with that strength behind them. "... Do you intend to continue training on your own, or... are you going with Phroth, as you two are, uh... kind of the same?"

Deonis shrugged "Phroth has made no such offer. Besides we were taught...differently. I am not sure he would be ok with that." He was thoughtful for a moment "So on my own it is until I have a better option."

"Hmm... this might be a strange question, as I don't know much about the way of life you come from, but... do you have to seek teachers who are as you are? Same kind, or also... err... special?" Not knowing much about Jedi, or the other kind, except for Force and lightsabers, and his species being a complete mystery to her, she wanted to show some care with asking instead of just assuming.

"Depends." He said plainly at first "for instruction in the Force need someone who uses the same side as you. Probably. I dont really know for sure but it seems hard to teach someone who uses it differently. As far as lightsabers go you would want the same style. There are seven forms each with their own style. Some share principles. But past that very different"

"Oooh, ok..." Raven brushed her hair back from her face, trying to make sense of that. "Right, you and Phroth both spoke about the different sides of the Force. Is that something that can be changed, or is it always the same for a person?"

"I'm also interested in hearing about these different lightsaber styles. So it's like unique fighting styles? For different types of sabers?"
