Morality House Rule: Conflict and Harmony

Post by Meiyokashi » Tue Apr 20, 2021 2:35 am

Normally, Morality has a session tally that requires a character to roll a 1d10 and mark it against the conflict gained in order to lower or raise a characters Morality score. We will no longer be making use of this method of gaining/tracking morality for this game.

I have found this method of implementing Morality to be extremely lacking when it comes to PbP. As it is with RAW when it comes to PbP it is hard to track conflict in a way that properly represents what the system is attempting to represent. With the RAW system there is an undeniable shift toward the light that is inevitable making any character who simply exists through enough sessions a light side paragon. Which, ultimately, removes the meaning from becoming a light side paragon.

These changes are with the intent of making Morality something meaningful, rather than a simple accumulation of points.

Conflict and Harmony:

Conflict will be gained as it was previously, marking up for all of the selfish or cruel decisions a character might make. While Harmony will now be the reverse of that meter and be used to track particularly selfless or generous decisions a character might make.

Each of these scores will be tracked across a session and then will be compared against one another, the lower will be subtracted from the higher and the characters morality will be affected by which one remains. Should they have harmony left they will steer toward the light but should it be conflict they will steer toward the dark.

Each session these scores will be tallied and marked against one another, keeping the ebb and flow familiar.
