Lunch Break (D6 EA)

[Lassa Tenro]

She shook her head, “It’s no problem Korvin. I seem to have been riling you up without knowing it.”

She smiled again, “Not trying to get you in trouble. Just seeing how you’d respond to some banter.”

[Korvin Hikarrin]

"Well, hopefully I learned my lesson about going head to head with imperial agents," he said, half smiling and half grimacing. "I'll stick to racing and... Well hopefully I can find something else where I'm similarly focused and chill..." The young man runs a hand over his face and into his hair, then reaches for a glass of water beside his bubbly drink.

“An Imperial agent? Wouldn’t that be cool.” She said with a smile.

“I’m afraid being a secretary for an Imperial researcher of flora and fauna isn’t so cool or sexy.”

Korvin looks at her, incredulous. "You just put me through all that, and you're some biologist's secretary?"

"Maybe all blue women are crazy," he mutters, realizing he's sitting in almost the same place as when another woman was making his brain hurt.

“Maybe. Though I’m sure you saying so is bound to make your mother cry.” She replied with a smile.

[Korvin Hikarrin]

"My mother's heard worse over the years, although not from me, I'll grant," he says a little dryly. "She's made of tough stuff, though. Husband was in politics, kids are... well, pretty much any kind of kids brings out your strength, I think..." Korvin pauses and looks into Lassa's eyes. "You have kind of a knack for getting people to talk, don't you?"

“I find most people want to be heard... Not enough people around to listen in most cases is all.” She replied with a soft smile.

"Well that sounds pretty wise. What do you do when the things people want to say aren't helpful?"

He takes another drink of water, food forgotten.

"I mean, plenty of people will keep talking as long as you let them. I suppose I'd be on that list," he says honestly.

She shakes her head at the last comment, “You’re way too hard on yourself. You’re a person. Fine as you are Korvin.”

She then tilts her head a bit to respond to the original question, “What do I do? I listen... Maybe it won’t be helpful, but does that really matter? There’s always something to be gleaned from listening. Even if it isn’t the thing that we are looking for. That’s why I don’t tend to shut people down when they are willing to talk. You can never know what you don’t know... until someone lets you know it.”

The young man smiles at her kind words. His nose twitches the tiniest bit at the way she says "that we are looking for," but he doesn't give it a second thought.

"I think," he says reflectively, "I maybe used to be better at listening patiently and learning things. Now I like getting on my bike and going, just listening to what she's telling me. Other things... They don't get any simpler, the more you listen."

She nods in response, “Rarely does. In fact, the opposite is usually more true. The more you know, the less you feel you really understand.”

She takes a sip, “But that’s better than shutting yourself off to new experiences if you ask me.”

[Korvin Hikarrin]

"Yeah, yeah, you're right," he admits, rubbing his head a little.

"This is... A lot more heavy thinking than I usually do eating my lunch here. Woulda been nice if you'd walked in with all the right answers instead of more questions," Korvin says with a half-hearted chuckle, clearly wishing that that had actually happened.

She smiled, “Next time I’ll do that then. Make it easy on you.”

She smirked, “Is that really what you’d like? Someone to tell you what to think?”

He puts his chin in his hands. "I'd really like to be able to figure out some things on my own," he said, voice slightly garbled by the placement of his hands. "But I keep coming back to the same answers that I don't like, so maybe what I need is someone to get me looking at things differently.
