He looked her up and down a little "you do that kind of work?" He asked with a tone that suggested an eyebrow, if he had them, might be raised behind that visor.

"Appearances are deceiving." He raised his glass "if it came to it may the best come out on top."

"Like I said, I do what I need to survive."

She shrugged.

"And this is a very 'have gun, will use it' kind of planet."

He nodded "or sword. Did some of that when I got here. Haven't in awhile. Might be doing it again." He said thinking of the meeting with the Wraith Sisters he had this morning.

"Well good luck with that. Swording or blasting. Not many use a sword these days."

"It's more or less how I was trained. Never liked blasters as much. Too impersonal. Plus I just do more damage with the blade."

She gestured with her glass.

" . . . a sword just doesn't . . . reach. You know?"

"Get a bigger sword." Came the dead pan reply followed by a sip "never really had problems reaching with mine."

"Blaster works sometimes, it just lacks . . . finesse."

She shrugged.

He regarded her for a moment "not often I hear swords talked about with finesse." He emphasized the word a little as he spoke.

Likewise, her own laugh was quiet so as to not interrupt the music.

"I think it's been good for her, living with a group of warriors who won't hesitate at all to take down anyone who might come for her. And, well, good for many of us too to have her around... don't worry, we'll make her into a warrior yet," Raven said with a grin, her words mostly joking but still leaving the door open enough to not rule out the possibility.

"Imagine her in armor, with a full data link up. Reminds me of some CnC troopers in..." his expression sank again, as if every memory about the war was painful, another reminder of the destroyed hope that he is so delicately trying to keep alive.

"You know, just always feeding every one the information they need."

Raven was smiling as he spoke, then it fell as painful memories resurfaced for her friend.

"Yeah, she'd be excellent at that." Putting on a brave smile again for her friend, she kept the mood up again. "No one's going to hurt you like that again, my friend. Not while you got me, and your other friends too."

"Old wounds. They don't heal right. Always scars, always there. And when..." he sighed, looking to her. "It's hard to not think of what might have been. What we should have been doing, instead of what we did. And now it just feels like every moment is trying to atone for being monks, locked away in a tower, away from the people who actually needed help."

"Yeah, I know how that is..." she nodded, understanding some of the struggle he was going through.

"... But you were helping people during the war, no? Protecting those who needed protecting?"

"In a way. But that there was a war.... maybe that's where we went wrong? We weren't listening to the people. We did the work of the Republic. Instead of... I don't know. Maybe it's too little, too late, but now, all I'm doing is what the Force..." he drops his voice a bit, "... what it brings me to. That seems to be the way, and it actually feels right. Not like then."

"Never too late to start doing things better. I think... for you, having left that behind, you have your cin vhetin. It's... for my people, it's essentially what's a new start. New beginning. "Well you can swing a vibroaxe around two seconds after you pick it up and do some decent damage. A sword takes practise. Skill. Otherwise you may as well just be swinging a length of pipe around."

She smiled at him.

"It's why you rarely see anyone using one these days."

"That is true. Though I don't want to leave behind who I was. That person... they're still me. But moving forward, it will be different." There was dedication in his voice, grit even. His grin returned.

"I never said how much I appreciate that you get me, Raven. And know just how to talk me up."

She chuckled warmly. "I've learned a lot this past year on being a better self, much thanks to my husband. It... helps. Lets me know how to make others be better too." Training Dex had been a factor as well, but she wouldn't have been able to accomplish that if not for Praxton.

"Besides, were it not for you having your own path you must walk, Phroth, I would have gladly vouched for you to join us as a brother. I consider you a good friend, one whom understands the struggles of an honorable warrior and the burdens of the past. Seeing you move forward with such dedication, it makes me feel honored to be your friend."

"Likewise. It's funny, that. Another era, we'd be on the opposite sides trying to take each other down." He chuckled, taking another drink. "We were in the right era for this, I think. All things considered." The Karkarodon looked to Raven, and his features softened.

"Your people are lucky to have you."
