A lot of Blue in the Sapphire (closed)

Nerves about this job see Dhel walking around with one of the Lounge's very tasty and alcoholic drinks. She's dressed in a long gown of deep blue so dark it's almost black, the chains and purple gemstone of the Cascader clasped around her neck.

[Korvin Hikarrin]

Korvin is typically close to her elbow, feeling highly protective due to recent events. He's giving space so they can both support the mission, but he's clearly much happier when he's beside her than anywhere else in this place.

The sleek black suit he's wearing shines like it's brand new, but it's already seen limited use as his time has gotten more enmeshed with the needs of the company. There's no tie around his neck but there is a brilliant sapphire blue pocket square tucked into the jacket's chest pocket. It wasn't really his style to have "flair," but the pocket square had been sitting with the party invitation when he found it at home, so it seemed for some reason like they went together.

Stepping closer to Dhel, he raises a nondescript looking beverage and takes a sip. "I foolishly thought this place was intense when we were here before," he comments dryly.

A pair of hands enthusiastically clap Korvin and Dhel on a shoulder each from behind

"Parties are what you make of them! I can totally make it a bit more exciting, but one of you would have to cover for me while I went into the women's room and you might hear some clanking."

Nara appears to be wearing a white ballroom gown complete with oversized bustle. For some reason it's also showing midrift with the words 'my guns are up here!' and little arrows pointing to her biceps.

Given that this event has Dhel nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, she startles at the greeting. As she recognizes the voice, she turns with a smile, that she's able to keep in place she processes the full effect of the bustle and the bare midriff and...

Now the skin showing was less than a good many of the dresses in the room, but the arrows and text... Dhel hides a giggle with one hand. "Nara! I can't believe they let you in with that!"

"No, no...it's plenty exciting. Recognized at least one person already that I don't much want to run into thanks." She lower her hand, looking thoughtful. "Though a distraction could be useful if they decide they want to run into me."

“It’s actually a genius plan. They check out my arms and the actual collection of firearms, explosives and a Neimodosn buzzswatter are hidden elsewhere. Also I tipped a valet like 50 credits to let me in a side door.”

Looking over the room as Dhel mentions distractions
“Just say the word and you can have all the: cachunk ‘she’s got an awesome gun’ bzz bzz bzz, boom! ‘my leg! She did a totally badass trickshot into my leg!’ Nyoom bang! you could ever want.”

Korvin didn't jump quite so much at Nara's greeting as Dhel had, but he looked more nervous now as she got going in conversation. There's a strategy to this. Surely. Someone knows how this is going to help.

"We will definitely let you know when--if, I really said if--we need that. Because we probably won't. You know, trying to be more subtle than that... and all."

Dhel is pretty sure she won't need to say such a word, but also oddly comforted that she's pretty sure she *could* and Nara would happily spread uncontrollable mayhem. She glances at the bustle. "I was going to say I thought those were totally out of style like five years back... but they're probably the height of fashion somewhere in the galaxy and it looks like you could hide another you-worth of stuff under there." She nods toward one of the food tables. "If you need to explode something, aim for that one. I'm sure someone in here is allergic to the Denuvian shrimp cocktail if it gets blown into their eyes."

She takes Korvin's arm, letting hers rest lightly on his. They did come under the same invite after all. Voice lower she adds. "Nice to know there's someone bribe-able at the door...just in case."

looking between the two

“You guys seem a little preoccupied. Everything alright? You’re not being attacked by hordes or rocket launching techno barbarians?.... that happens.”

Rubbing her chin

“The only other logical explanation is that you’re here doing some S.P.Y.I.N.G Which would be pretty rad but if you are you gotta lighten up and act natural, everyone knows that.”

The blue man's eyes couldn't really get larger as Nara started saying the secret part out loud. His eyes close angrily, but before he says anything mean, a more productive idea pops into his head.

"You know, Nara," Korvin starts, acting like he's admitting a big secret. "It's me. I just get... unsettled... when I hear you talking about blowing things up." He nods his head for emphasis. "I do. And Dhel, you know, she's just trying to help me work through it," he says with a final nod.

Dhel nods, then shrugs. "Honestly, I'm supposed to look a little nervous up here. Reassures everyone that I'm aware that I don't belong, you know?" She leans to press her shoulder against Korvin's. "But you're the up and coming kid who does belong here." She grins up at him, eyes wide with only slightly overacted adoration.

"She's right, you should at least look a little more smug with someone as cute and obviously impressed as me on your arm. You can always get super shocked if any of the uptight sorts actually pay any attention to us."

“Oh Korvin! I’d never even considered discussing explosions and shooting people could make someone uncomfortable. Honestly, this explains why none of those blind dates worked out.”

That and she’d turned up wearing a blindfold

“I know it’s a problem with a lot of men when it comes to explosions or the climax so I’ll like, try to use euphemisms. Us blues gotta respect eachother so we can have a bla-... so this party is the bo-....so we can have fun. Stars! This is so hard, I don’t know how people live like this.”

A waiter comes by with a tray of small fried balls and Nara deftly scoops a piece, nibbles it and then takes the tray leaving the confused staff to head back to the kitchen.

“These are great, and I really need something to serve drinks on back home. Oh, and Dhel’s right by the way. You guys are very cute together. Not only the coordinated colours but the vibes, they’re really positive. My heart could just explo-... ah! Almost did it again. But I didn’t!”

The perhaps-unlikely combination of charming Dhel and toned-down Nara actually does put him in a better frame of mind. He leans into a shoulder bump for Dhel, mouthing the words "thank you," while raising his free hand in a fist for Nara to bump. Turning to look at the Chiss he says solemnly, "Team Blue."

Looking more like a respectable man of society, Korvin starts to re-survey the room. But he pauses and turns back to Nara. "What are you going to do with that thing until you take it home?" He asks, obviously and genuinely curious. As he does, his free hand settles over Dhel's hand on his arm, the increased contact small but meaningful.

Dhel happily snags one of the snacks off the tray with her free hand, then gestures with it toward a group of younger Imperial military types. "You should try chatting that lot up about weaponry without shooty or explodey words. They look like they've drunk enough to join the game...and into their guns enough to have all kinds of opinions."

"How's the secret lair, though?" She frowns..."hmm, and how rainproof have you gotten it? It's gonna get pretty wet for the next little while." The snack gets snapped up as she squeezes Korvin's arm gently.

"Team Blue!" Nara fistbumps and goes to have her hand explode before quickly transitioning into jazz hands. Crisis averted.

"Do with it? Oh you know"
Hiking up the side of her dress the expensive looking platter is shimmied under the layers and up until Nara's bustle now resembles a radar dish.
"I'ma hold on to it. Plus if anyone tries to stab me in the butt who's gonna look the fool then?"

She reaches out for another passing platter but the waiter quickly dodges and receives a red eyed glare in return
"Oh so, yeah, waterproofing. I spent weeks figuring it out before it hit me. Like, what's the most waterproof thing in the universe?....Pools! That's all they do, they hold water and they don't let it out. So I put some of those premade pools on the roof. Now you can enjoy a quality cocktail as you watch the swamp gas rise at sunset."

Dhel's impressed that the waiter's have apparently already spread word among themselves about the tray-stealing blue lady, and amused by how nonplussed she's got to make folks here. Until someone decides they have enough clout to complain about it, there's going to be a lot of 'she's got to be the guest of someone really important to be in here looking like this.'

"Like the ones kids use in the hot season?" Dhel considers the state of the ship. "You know, I don't think I want to know how you got those to stay up on there. "Well, at least those are cheap this time of year."

Dhel's impressed that the waiter's have apparently already spread word among themselves about the tray-stealing blue lady, and amused by how nonplussed she's got to make folks here. Until someone decides they have enough clout to complain about it, there's going to be a lot of 'she's got to be the guest of someone really important to be in here looking like this.'

"Like the ones kids use in the hot season?" Dhel considers the state of the ship. "You know, I don't think I want to know how you got those to stay up on there. "Well, at least those are cheap this time of year."

"The trick is to do it while nobody's looking, then it just sorta happens. Makes everything much easier."

Before Dhel can say more, Korvin whispers a warning. "If you show too much interest, we're going to have to visit." The look he gives her suggests that is not a good plan.

"Nara, ah, should we try taking to those army boys over there," he asks, raising his glad toward the group Dhel had spotted. "If they can compete with you in the no-kabooms game I'll be amazed..."

Dhel looks up at him with some surprise. "What? You haven't visited yet? It's a little dangerous in the swamp, but kind of fascinating to see what you can do with a rotting wreck like that."

Korvin looks sideways at Dhel. "You, uh... When did you go to the swamp," he asks, his voice quiet but incredulous. His face suddenly looks the amount of tired that's been building for two weeks, creased with worry.

Nara passes the time as the two whisper by flexing her biceps at a stone faced guard, hoping to get a reaction out of him.
