How History is Written [Day 3, EA]

Post by Jaxom Ursae » Wed May 12, 2021 1:51 am

He couldn't remember the last time he'd been here. Was it a field trip? Was he with his father? His mother?

Jaxom wasn't an engineer. He didn't have the mind for it, no matter how hard he'd tried to learn. It had frustrated him when he was young, when he'd dreamt of being like his parents. Fortunately, he outgrew that.

Being a technical disappointment didn't mean he didn't appreciate the achievements of Bellionas, however. He was proud of his homeworld and its history. He was here to see how much of that history had changed.

Raven had a grumbly encounter with the droids at the entrance, claiming her getup didn't quite meet standards. She at least managed to convince the dumb-dumbs that her clothes were clean and there was nothing against face-coverings in Bellionassian culture... a lie because she didn't have a clue, but the droids had bought it and allowed her entry.

Truth to be told, she just wanted to get away from things for a moment. And a museum sounded like a place that no one would ever go to, which was mostly true it seemed, as she saw no one else in there as she walked around, looking at the various things on display. Except for one face that seemed oddly familiar...

He was staring at a model of the Archtech Foundry Ring. One section in particular seemed to be his focus. He studied it quietly for a moment, before catching sight of the Mandalorian.

He thought he recognized her, at least. She definitely seemed familiar. Stepping away from the display, he approached her.

A tall female warrior, even if a lot of her armor was hidden by the cloak she wore, there were of course parts visible that could identify her. "Hey..." the voice now didn't have the modulation of the helmet that it had before, now only slightly muffled by the headwrap.

"... Kamda, right? The spaceport there?" Raven cut straight to the issue, recalling Jaxom as the one who arrived with backup near the end there.

"Right." he nodded. "Seems like a few of us are here. Welcome to Bellionas."

"Right. Uh... thanks?" She nodded but was a little surprised by the choice of words welcoming her. "... I had my helmet on back then. Don't think we got the chance to be introduced. I'm Raven."

"Jaxom. Jaxom Ursae." he offered a smile. "The museum is nice. Only a few things have been removed, and a few things added."

Her eyes glanced around with some curiousity to take in their surroundings.

"... Honestly, this is the first time I'm visiting a museum. So it's like a trophy room of sorts?"

"Something like that." he shrugged. "This one has displays commemorating some of the greatest achievements of Bellionas and those responsible for them."

"Do you have anything displayed here then? Or your family perhaps?" she asked, figuring that maybe he was visiting for that reason.

He looked back at the model of the foundry. "We have a long history with shipbuilding. I think one of my ancestors is named on one of the shuttle models. But I was curious as to whether my father's name would be up there."

"Let's go an see then. It must be quite an honor to have a family's glory displayed for all to see."

The Mandalorian of course didn't really understand the idea that museums were supposed to be educational of sorts.

He led her closer to the model. "His name isn't there. It would be controversial, I think. I doubt there are any references to the war, here. And, I most Bellionasians wouldn't care to see him honored "

"Huh."

A moment of silence.

"... I don't quite understand. Guess the simpler question is why no references to the war?"

He pointed out a section of the shipyard. "We built ships for the CIS there. Well, my father and his colleagues did. He also surrendered it to the Republic when their forces arrived. We resisted down here, but there wasn't much we could do. That led to the occupation and to the current situation. From the Empire's point of view. my father's actions were heroic and the resistance forces were terrorists. Museums aren't for terrorists or for men the populace views as a traitor."

"I see.... that does complicate things," she said as she looked at the section Jaxom pointed out. "And yet still a part of his legacy is here, just... hidden, I suppose. Who's a terrorist or a freedom fighter depend a lot on which side you're on."

Death Watch probably didn't consider themselves terrorists.

"Is he still alive?"

"I don't know." he admitted. "We weren't on speaking terms when I left and I didn't get much information about things here while I was on Kamda. I plan to find him while I'm here, but I'll have to be careful about Imperial attention."

She looked for a moment at the display in thought.

"Think he might be held prisoner then?"

"It's possible. He worked with them during the occupation, but that was the Republic." he frowned. "When it became the Empire I can't imagine their methods sat well with him. After what happened to the Kayde's, especially."

"And, I have wondered if he had a hand in getting me off planet." he added.

"Well, if you need a sword-arm for a daring escape, I might be available," she offered with a dry smile. "... What happened to the Kayde's? Sorry, there's a lot of stuff I don't know about this planet."
