D3 EM: Droid Meditation

[The SCaT Droid]

"That is vastly different from the Mandalorians I remember, both on Concord Dawn and in the Death Watch. Are there other tenets your people follow now?"

[Soleene Stryss]

Soleene couldn't help but tilt her head slightly at the question. This wasn't because it was asked but rather he questioning the droid if it thought that Mandalorians were only about helmets. "Well, I'm sure both of those Mandalorians have been at it for longer than I've been one. As for the Resol'Nare, it is far more than just about wearing the beskar'gam. It requires us to speak the language, serve the Clan, Mand'alor, and even passing down our ways to the next generation. Often that means children, I guess."

[The SCaT Droid]

"And there's the catch. Droids don't have children like organics do, and they would eat too many resources to build a factory for droids instead of weapons I bet. Thus why I've never heard of a droid mandalorian. "

[Soleene Stryss]

"Eh, I guess..." she said with a sigh, getting the feeling that she was going to disappoint this droid regardless of how she was going to say it. "I guess it would explain why I haven't heard of one. I don't know about the means of production when it comes to a weapon and a droid. I get the sense that Mandalorian weapons aren't built in factories like how the Empire does it."

[The SCaT Droid]

"My apologies for being such a downer about this; it's just when you're stuck in a situation that you can't change for so long it just saps away hope for your future. Ah well, back to figuring out how to implement a mustache. I can't just cut hair off and use it, that would just be dead tissue on my face. Perhaps some moss?"

[Soleene Stryss]

"Not quite a downer...but I do see that you're trying really hard at this, enough to rack your brain around it. Circuits. Hardware, whatever. Words just seem kind of empty if you're drawing to some conclusion. I can't say I can change much for you either. Even I'm starting to feel a bit bad." She shook her head at that and tossed her hand up to offer something else. "Besides, a beard will probably do more for you than a mustache. Anyone can get a mustache. Beards are something else entirely."

[The SCaT Droid]

"One thing at a time, gotta figure out how to have something living on my body first in whatever way. Besides a beard would only make it harder to hear me." It then takes off its comlink and gives it a quick wipe before putting it back on.

[Soleene Stryss]

Soleene gave a few slow nods at that. If she had any other opinions about a droid growing a legitimate mustache, she kept it to herself for now. "Aw, well. Small steps they say. Coruscant wasn't built in a day and all that."

"Hm. People aren't just made up of whatever is growing on their bodies. They also have names too. Maybe you could think of...something?" She said on an unsure note with a wobbling hand, not knowing if he went by a designation or had a legitimate name already. "It's far easier than finding a way to have something grow out of you. If people use it enough, you might actually become that person."

[The SCaT Droid]

"An interesting perspective. I have gone by several names through the years. During the war, I went by 1COR-05, then I spent some time hiding from everyone with no name whatsoever, went to various pirates got names that I knew didn't fit, and then finally here I go by SCaT. However, how does one find their true name?" The droid then looks around and finds some moss and holds it up to have a closer look.

[Soleene Stryss]

"SCaT? Okay, that's a name." She nodded in acceptance. "As for finding their true name? I don't think many people just find a name, many of them are just given to them and some of them are earned. Either way, a name is just something that everyone keeps for a while, likely even for the rest of their lives. I don't know if there's a definite ownership rule? Just something that sticks."

"Like...'The Law', I guess," she said with a chuckle.

[The SCaT Droid]

"Considering how ridiculous the example name was, I presume it is something given when others acknowledge you? Similar to the titles of the Jedi and Sith?"

[Soleene Stryss]

"Again with the Jedi, hm?" She said curiously. "No, 'The Law' I'm talking about it apparently the name of the bouncer who works at The Cave around here. Kind of a grandiose name for someone who just works at a place of entertainment, huh? It makes me kind of wish I had a name like that...but that's beside the point, just an example of how names can stick, regardless of how silly."

Before they can get further away on the topic of names, she remembered to give her own introduction. "I'm Soleene," she said extending a hand, figuring that the droid would want the full custom at least.

[The SCaT Droid]

At that, the droid shifts its head quizzically. "No clan name?"

[Soleene Stryss]

Soleene crossed her arms and tilted her head at the question. "Yeah, there's one. What about it?"

[The SCaT Droid]

"Not much, just tells me a little about yourself. One of the things you learn from a series of mind wipes and a neural recorder is that the secrets that want to be kept the most are the ones that will come out the most explosively. Every time I have been reprogrammed it has been as a maintenance droid, but I always end up remembering how to my blaster."

[Soleene Stryss]

"Explosively, now?" she said a touch warily as that word stuck out very much like a sore them, especially considering her initial impression of the situation when she saw the droid just sitting there. "Isn't that something you don't want happening, then?"

[The SCaT Droid]

"Not me, the ones who reprogram me. I mean, sure it would be nice to not have to shoot my way out of trouble when it comes my way, but I would hate myself if I forgot the atrocities done both to and by my brothers."

[Soleene Stryss]

"Right, sensitive and touchy memories, I take it are triggering points when they're accessed? That's not too different than some people, organic people. If that's the case, I still don't think you need to know all that much about me to contribute. I'm just one of a few Mandalorians here."

[The SCaT Droid]

"Naturally, just one of those organic traditions of getting to know the people you are fighting with. It's not just the touchy memories that cause unwanted results in a droid's neural network. Every memory received is another piece of evidence that very well could stray their minds away from the unwitting pawns our masters want us to be."

[Soleene Stryss]

"Words can be nice but it's often best to not get too caught up in other people's hubris. At the end of the day, nothing is really better than seeing actions speak for themselves, whether that's fighting on the same field or just sharing the burden together." She looked in the direction of the press. It wasn't a glorious place but she supposed that was an example at least. "Even lifting rocks, I guess."
