A Stone's Throw Away (D4, MA)

Raven had no business at the motel, but it was a familiar landmark that had some distance from more important locations, like the safehouse or the Resistance's base. Sure, she was probably being way too paranoid about this, but Jyr had expressed before how it was better to be safe than sorry when it came to a lot of electronics.

On high alert, Raven looked around for Jyrvess to arrive.

Jyrvess approached not so much quietly but casually, just a normal citizen going about her normal business. Stepping aside and out of the line of any motel traffic, she quickly gave the place a look over before speaking.

"You wanted to see me?" Though she spoke to Raven, her eyes were still moving around in a now lazy arc to keep a look out for anything suspicious.

"Yes," with the hood up, Jyr could still see the familiar helmet underneath. From underneath her cloak, she produced the device they had found. "It's... some storage device or something?"

Jyrvess felt a chill on her neck, like someone was watching her. But she quickly dismissed it as mere paranoia, been doing this too long.

She gingerly takes the device from Raven and inspects it quietly, Jyrvess whispers, "Keep watch so I can concentrate on this if you would please."

"Got it." Nodding, Raven took up a more watchful position that also kept Jyrvess more protected.

Plenty of folk milled about around here, different faces from different walks of life. Notably the van was still parked out front but the group usually hanging around it wasn't present at the moment. A few pairs of folk chatted pleasantly outside their rooms, some by their speeders, and others just around. As Jyrvess walked through to meet up with Raven there were plenty of quick glances, watchful eyes, but no one seemed particularly interested beyond that passing glance.

There was a small common room area, wasn't very common to have but the people who frequented this motel often had business in the surrounding area and needed a quick way to connect to the holonet. Something that would be useful near immediately as Jyrvess would realize when Raven handed her the data-vault, a small device that could be plugged into almost any terminal to access the information inside. She knew there would likely be a key to enter or she could try and brute-force her way in.

Two options:

With Slicing gear Jyrvess could attempt to slice her way into the data-vault and gain access to the information inside.
Computers vs Hard, 1 setback.

Or,

With Manny on the line, as he noticed a few things in the Ithorians room, Jyrvess and Manny could theoretically work together through a list of possible passcodes. (You can call Manny and have him on a communicator for this)

[Sofia Hargrave]

Outside, Sofia strolled up to the van from the other night wearing a different outfit than she had this morning. For the afternoon she wore a small tank-top and shorts. Currently unaware of Raven, as it would seem, as she didn't give her a wave and seemed preoccupied with some other task as she went toward the back of the van and disappeared behind it.

[Jyrvess Ertil]

"I could crack it if I had my gear," Jyrvess frowns then realizes Raven might not have any idea what she was even talking about, "It's a data stick, almost assuredly password protected. Sadly I don't have my equipment so I can't check it here." A shrug then a chuckle, "Well unless the person you got it from left their password on a note nearby."

Raven watched Sofia, but remained in position to keep Jyr covered.

"Hmm... I didn't see anything like that. Manny was with me then, so maybe he saw something... and if not Manny, maybe Varina." She shrugged. "Got your comm, or want me to call him up?" With that, she tapped the side of her helmet, indicating the integrated comlink there.

As they chatted, Sofia appeared again from around the back of the van with a foldable chair. Walking out toward the front of the van she set it down before glancing around and moving toward the back of the van again.

[Jyrvess Ertil]

"I'll let you do the honors, you will likely have a better idea of what was in the room. Ask him if there was anything significant in the room, something personal...people usually make passwords that are related to something dear to them." Jyrvess paused, "...or p@$$w0rD!"

[Raven Cadera]

Nodding, Raven seemed silent as she interacted with the HUD and comlink in her helmet. "Call Manny," she said under her breath, activating the voice-trigger for the call.

Manny would probably be happy to know that she had expanded her call-list since Kamda...

[Manny Donos]

"Ayyyyy, Raven!" Manny sounded very cheerful. "What's up? I was just getting ready for some crime. Good crime, so don't worry!"

Jyrvess could hear Raven sigh, but it was the act of the shoulders rising and falling that drove it home. Yep she was certainly talking to Manny. "... I'm not even going to ask what 'good crime' entails."

"Manny, when we were checking the apartment... you said the guy had Manka Cats posters in there, right? We're trying to crack a password here, so if you had a very cool password to something important, and you're a Manka Cats-fan... what type of password would you have?"

Raven realised in hindsight that the line of questioning, if coming from unknown people, would've seemed extremly shady and suspicious.

[Manny Donos]

"Oh wow, there's so many good ones! You could do Manka Cats Rule, that's the one that I..." there was a brief pause, "I would use, if I was the guy." Manny cleared his throat.

"Antilles is good. He's the star player. Star player when I was a kid was Jeetles. Uhh... their championship game was 116 to 113..."

Manny had a lot of facts about the Manka Cats.

Jyrvess went through a list of possible passwords with Manny, but ultimately came up with nothing. She cursed quietly, feeling they were so close to cracking it....they were just missing something.

Jyrvess and Manny spend the better part of an hour going through a host of possible pass-phrases but come up with nothing. Luckily, they haven't exhausted every option yet and with a bit more time they might even manage it...

"Alright let's go over this again Manny." Jyrvess, "What is the most obscure and silly fact that only the most extreme fans would know? Something that makes you stand out as a true fan. You are a true fan right?"

Which...apparently worked.

Clearly they just needed to challenge Manny's cred as a true Manka Cats fan.

Raven rolled her shoulders a few times, feeling stiff standing there for so long, and also frustrated... but she had to trust in her friends. She just had to.
