Working the Angles [EA, Day 5, Drizzie's]

[Jaxom Ursae]

It wasn't as bad as he had feared, but it was still bad. Jaxom was not hated by everyone on Bellionas. Over the past several days, however, he'd found few who were willing to speak to him, much less trust him.

At the moment, he was shooting pool alone.

[Torr Po]

At a booth a little ways away a hungover Farghul dressed in odd robes stirs awake from the repetitive click of pool balls. He comically attempts to coax alcohol out of the long empty bottles around him before at last giving up and asking, "How do you play this game? I've been watching for some time as others have a go at it. But the game is foreign to me."

[Jaxom Ursae]

"You use the stick to hit the white ball, sending it to hit other balls and knock them into the pockets, without the white ball falling in." He demonstrated by knocking in a yellow ball. "There are different games that can be played, with different rules, but that's the basic idea."

[Torr Po]

Torr stumbles over to the table and watches. "Indeed? I believe I'll try my hand at it then." Grabbing one of the sticks he racks a vacant table and breaks boldly. The next shot he makes sends the black ball spinning into the corner pocket. "This is fun!" He declares triumphantly.

[Jaxom Ursae]

"It is." he agreed. "It's a good way to unwind."

He took a shot, sending a striped ball around the table and into a corner pocket. Then gestured for Torr to take another turn.

[Torr Po]

Torr eyed his next target, "an orange striped ball. But aiming for it would make subsequent shots nye impossible. But the far more boring target, the safer bet... Hmmmm." He gambled and took the harder shot. But pocketed the white ball. "Poodoo..." He scratched his beard in irritation. "Does this mean I have lost?"

[Jaxom Ursae]

"It would depend on the game we were playing." he shrugged as he took the white ball out of the pocket and set it on the table. "We're just practicing. In many games, pocketing the cue ball is a foul and allows your opponent to place the ball back on the table where they wish."

He took a shot, hitting a red ball. Unfortunately, the angle had been off and the ball bounced away from the intended pocket.

[Nelk]

Having nowhere else to be at the moment, Nelk turned to what might be her new haunt while stuck on this planet. As she enters, she immediately notices Torr playing pool with another new human. A bit frustrated she couldn’t seem to spend a moment away from that mangy vagrant, she sighed and walked past them straight to the bar to sit down. She figured she better get friendly with the proprietor if she was going to be spending so much time here.

“Excuse me barkeep, are you by chance Drezzie?”

[Torr Po]

"Practice," Torr smirked. "Practice is what doctors and prelates do. But what do warriors gain from practice?" He aims for the red ball and sinks it. Then doubles back at the striped orange ball. "They imbed their mistakes no? So let us spar. Iron sharpens iron." He strikes the ball at an angle that sends it away from the hole, and leaves him in a far more beneficial position for follow up shots. "Name the rules."

(*OOC - Feel free to just call either 8 or 9 ball, I only need to know what to roll stat wise. IC, Torr's a mischievous bullshitter and knows how to play pool. If you want to roll perception against one purple and one red dice we can add an advantage dice to the face off. Up to you though. )

"Best to start fresh, then." he grinned.

He explained the rules of 9-Ball as he set up the table.

Let's try to keep it simple. Hard Coordination. Each successful shot allows another shot, with Advantages or Threats adding Boosts or Setbacks to the next shot. With a failed shot, Advantages or Threats become Setbacks or Boosts for the other player's shot. Triumphs and Despairs can be wins, losses or something else interesting, depending on the situation.

Torr breaks sending the One and the Eight Ball into the pocket. "Hmph," he aims for the two ball. "I think I understand."

"Very nice." he smiled. "Now you need to target the two."

He continued to play teacher.

He targets the two ball which is wedged up against the wall of the felt. Smacks the cue ball towards it at high speeds. Had the angle been just a tad more in his favor he might have sunk the shot. "Poodoo, you're up friend."

Jaxom took his shot, but the two remained stubborn, not going where he wanted.

Torr sinks the two ball with the use of some clever (english?) but fails to nail the three since it was tucked nicely between the felt and the five. "New to the city I'm afraid. Torr Po by the way. Itinerant monk or wandering wastrel, you be the judge."

“I am. I’d just like to introduce myself, I have a feeling i’ll Be spending a lot of my free time here and would like to get on good terms with management. I guess you’ll be seeing a lot me as well,” Nelk leans up on the bar, smiles at him, with just a hint of sharp teeth, and winks.

"Sure," he takes a glance around the bar, making sure everything seemed to be in order. As it was, he looked back to Nelk with a smile and a nod. "Always happy for a new regular. Lemme go get 'im," he gives a nod toward the back and then moves off into the back room.

"Thanks," she says as he walks off. Nelk turns to the relaxing sound of the pool table and catches Torr's eye as she nods and gives a friendly wave.

Looks like Torr is making friends, she thought. Good, we could always use more friends. The man he was playing looked friendly enough, and she had overheard him being helpful in educating Torr on the game, though Torr likely knew what he was doing all along.
