(D5 LA) Repurposing Mother's Stuff

[Varina Ordo]

Varina hung around all afternoon, tapping away on her datapad, pretending that she gave a crap about what anyone in this Crater said. They were just like the Enclave: a bunch of people with too much testosterone, even the women.

But she still had a mission: take something from her mom's pile of stuff! She did her classic vagrancy thing, waiting for an opening...

Waiting, watching for some time her mother had left some minutes ago. From her best guess it appeared her mother would not return too soon.

Varina cracked her neck and walked in to the nearest, shiniest box that she could find. A looted suit of armor was probably too much to ask for but Raven was always talking about how that was important...

Outside in the assortment of things Varina found a few shiny boxes, the shiniest being a gold-plated thing that seemed to contain.. jewelry, maybe, it wasn't very large but it was made from some fine wood and probably could sell for a good chunk of credits. Most of the things here were of that nature, but others were old ammo boxes used for storage of food or medicine. Closer to the ship she'd be able to manage a peek inside, it was a single-person freighter and thus didn't have too much space. This nature of it granted her the opportunity to peek inside and spy the workbench just inside the entrance.

What was better than taking something her mother was actively working on? Ordinarily, she wouldn't want someone to notice but she was certain her mom would know it was her. She just needed to make sure she left first.

Varina craned her neck around then walked towards the bench.

Moving inside the ship exposed her to view for a moment, but it was only a moment. Steeping inside she was among her mother's space. Trophies from many fights hung from the wall. At her back there was an inset for an armor stand that was empty, unsurprising considering she was seen wearing it, though her mother's helmet did rest in the space.

On the workbench itself however rested the GALAAR-15 rifle she'd been cleaning earlier when Raven stopped by. On the workbench itself tools were mostly kept tidy. Near the right hand side by the back there was an old case that wasn't opened often by the dust caked onto it.

A helmet was too big, too unwieldy, to be stowed away. A rifle, though... if she could dismantle or fold certain parts, stuff it all in her jacket, then she'd be in business. And with the other case, it didn't seem like it could be too valuable in there.

Varina stalked on over and went to her prize, eyeing it with glee. She wasn't even sure if she'd ever use it but her mom wouldn't even be able to use it against her! The perfect plan.

Not even a whisper she made her way inside without notice. The GALAAR was there and ripe for the taking. Knowing anything about the weapon, which she likely might given its prevalence among the Nite Owls, would inform her instinct that it was well maintained and also modified plenty.

Just how modified she'd have to have more time to look it over than she probably did now.

It was as good as hers.

Varina looked about for a way to cover it up. Cloth, case, something like that. While her cloak would work, she figured it'd look weird if she carried it like a bundle instead. Failing that, she also hoped for easily removable bits on the rifle, such as the barrel or stock, so she could more easily stuff it in her pockets.

Nearby there was a duffel bag of sorts that seemed to be used to carry in supplies for the workbench, screws and metal pieces still inside of it and a whole assortment of other haphazard metals. Dumping it out would certain give her enough room in which to conceal the blaster. With a few quick adjustments to the stock she even makes it look more like scrap than a blaster.

Ah, well, she's not going to miss this either. Varina compacted the rifle as much as possible and dumped out the bag's contents onto the workshop. It was probably louder than she'd anticipated but hopefully someone would take it as usual mechanical work. She hurried up her pace, slinging the bag over her shoulder once she was done and hurrying down the ramp.

Outside it was the Chiss warrior from before, "Think she's looping back around this way soon.. thought I'd keep watch," she chuckled. "Had to do a couple laps about to make sure I didn't lose you at first.."

"Who's coming back to where?" Varina asked. She couldn't straight up admit that she knew this was her mom's vessel. "I thought I told you before: I don't need anybody, definitely not a babysitter."

"I was aiming for 'spotter,'" she said, walking over and sitting in the fine armchair her mother had out among her less-important things. Lounging into it she watched Varina for a moment, parsing a thought.

"Though stealing in house is a little tacky.." she shook her head, "anyway, that's me. You though.. I wanna help, so.. deal with it," she finished with little style to her display of a smirk, rocking her head to the side with it.

Varina glanced around. She wanted to come up with some sort of insult but she didn't really have the time. "Okay... I was going to just leave. This conversation is taking up more time..."

"I'm not stopping you if you want to go," she leaned her head back and looked up into the sky. "Unless.." she looks up, a mischievous smile on her expression, "You haven't left yet cause secretly you want me to go with you? Partner in your little heist after all," she teased, she chuckled.

"I don't do partners. Besides, she'd ask where you were going, wouldn't she?" Varina stepped away and looked over her shoulder. "I'll probably be seeing you around though. Need to get more of my early inheritance anyways."

[Meiyokashi]

"I don't think you get quite how we roll around here," she said, watching Varina step away. Before she got too far she rose out of the chair and walked a couple steps in her direction. Thinking, then just giving a smirk, "You will."

Varina stopped. It was easy enough to brush off the group but it was important to know how they operated, both in dealing with her mom and Carid. "Does it have to do with the lone wolf stuff? You all do your own thing, kind of like me?"

She sighed. "You have some sort of thing with her too? I doubt it's to the extent of me though."

"Kind of like you, yea," she stepped forward, looking to Varina and sizing her up, especially with the sigh. Just a few steps away she looked directly to her sharing the gaze if Varina looked over, "Your mom wouldn't be asking where I'm going," she made a point to that, but shifted, "But no, I don't have anything with her. She's like.. super cool when she fights, and it's rad but.. no beef, no history beyond fighting together now and then."
