D5 MA: Just Some Bike Maintenance (Expecting)

"Um," Korvin's eyes go wide again. "Well, no, my parents wouldn't be in danger... from..." He runs a hand over his face and into his hair, then does it again after a pause.

"Look, I don't... I don't really have a big plan, ok? Like that's more my sister's thing. I think she's going to do big things... I thought she was going to take over my dad's company and stuff. I'm just... Yeah, ok, so I don't have a big plan." The Pantoran's face looks unhappy, although he doesn't seem to be directing any anger at Scat.

"Big plans don't have to be your parents'. You just need to take a look around and find something that you know should be different and then work your way to changing it. "

[Korvin Hikarrin]

Korvin takes being lectured by a droid really well, nodding at Scat's encouragement to do something meaningful.

"I've been feeling like something big was coming to Bellionas, and I think I'm right. There's... good work being done. A little here and a little there. I'm glad to be helping in my small ways, even if that isn't a, uh life plan like my parents probably want." He chuckles again, now noticing how easily the droid goes through the progression of mechanical checks without missing a beat in the conversation.

"The thing you learn about big changes is that they are only possible when a hundred little changes happen first. You may not even notice them, but they are there. A big help for finding your path in life is to just take a little time each day, thinking about all of those little pieces."

The Pantoran frowns thoughtfully. He processes Scat's wisdom slowly, leaning against a wall and crossing his arms in what might seem a slightly defensive posture. But his face shows deep thought.

"You know," he finally says, a little irritation getting through, "I'm not used to mechanics being so... mystical, or whatever. Usually they try to sell me stuff for Ruby. Or, like, ask if I'm doing anything with hot girls or something..."

"No offense, but I have better things to spend my credits on than a speeder, and even if I didn't, I wouldn't ask for it from a guy who's paying me to fix theirs. That's just bad logic." Then SCaT takes a second away from looking over the maze of parts and turns to Korvin, then gives him a quizzical look. "I worry for the mechanics who ask a teenager about their sex life. Are you even past the age of majority?"

Korvin's immediate reaction is a shocked face -- What kind of droid says "No offense, but"? -- but the last comment strikes a humorous note that he can't resist. With a loud laugh, Korvin replies, "I'm plenty old, but you're right, some of these guys are plenty creepy." He laughs again.

"The best mechanics get caught up by the biggest racers, making enough money that they can blow off guys like me," Korvin admits. He's clearly unhappy about this situation but resigned to it. "So, it's mechanics that are cheap enough, trustworthy enough, and available enough to take care of my girl here. Maybe it'll be different after I get a couple more wins," he says, sounding only moderately optimistic.

"I assume you have a big race coming up? I can come with you, give an air of professionalism. Maybe some big company would take a closer look then."

Korvin is quick to light up at that idea.

"Really? You'd do that? That would be really cool of you! I mean, I could probably even... pay you. Like, just a little something..." The Pantoran's face showed a conflict between thrift and genuine appreciation. It wasn't clear which side would win out.

"Yeah, it would be a good experience for me and you. You get a good mechanic for the middle of the race (I assume these are long enough to need mid race maintenance) and I get to be right in the pit area. We can talk about payments later if you want."
